8 fun things to do during the Christmas break with the kids

Christmas is a wonderful time for most children, and many especially enjoy the holiday break that stretches from the days before Christmas Eve all the way into January of the next year.

But what do you do if the long break starts to feel a bit boring? We have the tips!

1. Have a home spa day

Children also need to be pampered, and most love this cozy activity!

Offer a massage of the back, head, hands, legs, or wherever feels good and comfortable for the child. Use a skin-friendly oil for better glide. Remember to massage gently at first as it may feel unfamiliar.

Pour a foot bath and add some oil to soften the feet, or fill a bathtub with warm water and bath foam and let the child relax thoroughly. Feel free to serve something tasty and refreshing to drink, like freshly pressed organic juice or water.

2. Go on an adventure

Pack a delicious organic picnic and fill a thermos with warm homemade chocolate and go exploring in the forest among elves and trolls.

Dress warmly, bring something to sit on, and create wonderful childhood memories!

3. Let the children go on a treasure hunt!

Draw a simple treasure map of the yard or forest. Make small notes with riddles, math problems, or fun questions. Hide the notes and mark on the map where each note is located. When the children have found all the notes and solved the problems, they get a final clue from you describing where the treasure is!

The treasure can be an item, something to eat, or an experience like a swimming ticket, bowling ticket, or something else fun that you know your child enjoys doing.

4. Invite to a costume party

Draw and craft fun invitations for friends, neighborhood kids, or cousins and invite them to a costume party that includes face painting.

Let the children come dressed however they want and do simple face paintings on their cheeks or forehead. Blow up a bunch of balloons and play freeze dance as long as the children want and can!

5. Build a fort & read a book

Building a fort is fun for both small and big kids and everyone can do it. Use a table or other furniture and hang a blanket over it. Make it cozy with something soft to lie on, some pillows, and a lamp.

In no time, you have the coziest little hideout where you can lie and cuddle up with a book together with a parent or a friend. Reading aloud to your child is very important and great for the child’s language development.

6. Bake something delicious together

Put on your aprons, bring out bowls and spoons, and find that favorite recipe you never usually have time for. During the Christmas break, you’ll find the time for that cozy baking session the children will remember forever.

Out of ideas? No worries, here we offer a full 126 recipes for many different occasions!

7. Play cinema

On a day when it’s raining or too cold outside, movie time can be perfect! Let the children draw tickets that you hand out to all moviegoers. Fill the sofa with extra pillows, blankets, and other cozy things.

Find an old classic on the TV that you think suits the whole family and prepare some snacks like these wonderfully tasty cheese-flavored popcorn, a super delicious caramel pie, Christmas candy, or a fruit platter with organic yummy fruits. Dim the lights in the room and enjoy the movie and company!

8. Organize a game night with the whole family!

Invite grandma, aunt, cousins, and the rest of the family for a fun game night. Let the children choose the games they want to play and roll the dice to decide which game to start with. The child who rolls the highest number wins, and you start with that game.

Play games as long as you can, and remember: Being a good loser is great. Being a good winner is even better 😉
