How do I know Opti3 is free of environmental toxins?

Opti3 contains algal oil grown in stainless steel vessels under controlled conditions, therefore Vegetology has the ability to control exactly what is happening in the composition and the oil is not at risk of environmental toxins as is the case with e.g. fish oil. In order to sell these products in the EU, Vegetology must meet the contamination criteria specified by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). Each batch must be tested and proven to meet this criterion.

Does Opti3 contain iodine?

Opti3 does not contain any nutritionally significant amount of iodine because it is not taken from the sea like fish oil , but it is grown in stainless steel vessels so that the composition is very carefully controlled. It can only be described as “traces” of iodine.

How is the oil extracted from the algae?

Opti3 is grown under controlled conditions in stainless steel tanks. When the algal cells are mature, they burst through an enzymatic process to release the oil and this oil is then separated from the water and cell biomass. Vegetolgy does not use solvents or chemicals in the process, it is physical separation. They add antioxidants to protect the oil, but these are also natural.

What are the names of the microalgae used to make Opti3?

They use the species Schizochytrium for Opti3.

Does opti 3 contain soy products?. Is the vitamin E added from soy?

Opti3 does not contain soy products. The vitamin E comes from sunflower oil.

What dose of Opti3 should I give my child?

Opti3 is suitable from newborn onwards. You press a hole in the capsule and then the oil can either be taken directly on a spoon or stirred into food. It is fine with 1 capsule from 2 years onwards.

Can I give Opti3 to my pets?

It is very common for Opti3 to be given to cats and dogs. Some of our customers puncture the capsules and add the oil to pet food. There are reports of specific benefits for animals including joint care and general health.

Why does Opti3 contain Carrageenan?

Vegetology uses a small amount of Carrageenan (which comes from seaweed) to form a vegetable capsule. It is a brilliant alternative to gelatin from animals. The level they use is extremely low and safety has been proven to be extensive. They use pharmaceutical grade. Its safety has been continuously ratified by all authorities including the US FDA and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). However, this means that the capsules are not completely MM friendly, as Anthony advises against it. In this case, an alternative might be to open the capsule and take the contents in a shot instead – avoiding the carrageenan.
