Getting started with non-toxic eco-cleaning at home doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. Many of us might think we need 20 different products at home for various special purposes, but really we need very few that can be used for many different tasks. And a bonus is that we avoid allergenic and hormone-disrupting chemicals like synthetic fragrances. In short, you need something basic to remove ingrained dirt and grease, something acidic to remove limescale and soften hard, lime-rich water, and some form of surfactant that effectively dissolves grease and dirt. Base, acid, and surfactant Basic agents include sodium bicarbonate, which is the mildest. Sodium carbonate and sodium percarbonate are stronger bases and can be used when bicarbonate isn’t quite enough. You can read Morotsliv’s comprehensive carbonate guide about their uses. Acidic agents include vinegar, lemon, and citric acid. These are effective for removing limescale in coffee makers, kettles, or around faucets. Such deposits come from hard water. Vinegar has many cleaning uses. However, vinegar can corrode grout and natural stone. Be careful where you use vinegar. Then we have the fat-soluble surfactants and saponins. These include dish soap, soaps, washing nuts, and similar. DIY recipes Here are some simple recipes that are easy to mix yourself. All-purpose cleaner 5 dl water 1 tbsp soap or Castile soap Mix everything in a bottle. Attach the nozzle. Spray on the surface and wipe clean. Window cleaner 2.5 dl water 2.5 dl vinegar 1 tsp natural dish soap This is an old housekeeping tip my grandmother taught me. Mix all the ingredients in a bottle and wash the windows. Mix everything in a bottle. Attach the nozzle. Spray on the windows. Wipe with a damp microfiber cloth. Dry thoroughly with newspaper or a dry microfiber cloth. I usually use a damp microfiber towel and a dry one. When I wipe with the dry one, I dry every other vertical stroke and every other horizontal stroke until it’s bone dry, meaning it becomes rough and hard to wipe. Then the windows are clean. I usually alternate between right and left hand. Good for the brain, motor skills, and muscles. Remember it needs to be cloudy and above freezing outside when you wash the windows! Floor cleaner 5 liters of lukewarm water 0.5-1 dl soap or Castile soap Mix in a bucket and mop the floor with a microfiber mop. If the floor isn’t very dirty, it’s enough to dampen the mop or even use it dry. Drain cleaning Sodium carbonate Vinegar If the drain is clogged, try pouring about 1 dl sodium carbonate followed by 2 dl vinegar. It will fizz for a while. Let it work for a few hours or overnight. Then pour a kettle of hot water and run the tap on the hottest setting for a while. Repeat if needed. Remove limescale deposits Soak a cloth in vinegar and place it around the faucet where limescale has built up. Wait an hour and then wipe clean. In the kettle, pour 1 dl vinegar and fill with water. Let it sit for an hour, then boil and pour out. Repeat if needed and let it work longer. Be careful not to inhale the fumes! Greasy stains Greasy stains from oil, butter, or makeup disappear if you sprinkle plenty of absorbent clay and let it sit for about 3 hours. Rub gently and then vacuum away the clay dust. Detergent Did you know you can wash clothes with the horse chestnuts that fall on the ground in autumn? Here you can read how to do it. But if you don’t have horse chestnuts where you live, you can also wash clothes with other products. For one load, you can use: 4-6 soap nuts soap flakes soap flakes Castile soap eco-friendly detergent from Sonett or Mulieres If you’re washing whites, you can add 0.5 dl sodium percarbonate instead of laundry powder. It keeps whites bright. Instead of fabric softener, you can use a couple of tablespoons of vinegar, which both neutralizes bad odors and keeps clothes soft and comfortable. If you want a scent, you can add a few drops of your favorite essential oil. Dishwasher detergent Today I can finally share a recipe for homemade dishwasher detergent for sparkling clean dishes – free from borax! It’s super easy, cheap, and fun to make. Ingredients: 2 dl washing soda 2 dl sodium sesquicarbonate 1 dl sea salt 1 dl citric acid You can also use baking soda instead of washing soda, but it’s less grease-cutting and not as effective. Liquid dish soap ½-1 dl vinegar or gel vinegar Make homemade dishwasher detergent like this: Mix all the ingredients well. Store in an airtight glass jar. Put on a nice label so you remember what’s in the jar. When you’re doing the dishes Fill the dishwasher door compartment with dishwasher detergent. Add 5-10 drops of liquid dish soap, depending on how greasy the dishes are. (Don’t add more than that, or it might bubble over!) Pour ½-1 dl vinegar or gel vinegar into the bottom of the dishwasher. Start the program. Good luck! P.S. If you want to clean naturally but don’t have time to make your own cleaning products, there are ready-made natural cleaners available!
Read moreGuide to lymphatic massage with dry brushing in 5-10 minutes
Have you heard of dry brushing but wonder what it is and why you should do it? Here is a simple guide and explanation. If you are more interested in lymphatic massage/drainage for the face, you should read about the techniques for lymphatic drainage in the facial area instead. Dry Brushing By dry brushing the skin, you remove old skin residues and waste products. It helps keep the pores clean and stimulates blood circulation. But dry brushing also has perhaps an even more important role. It stimulates and activates the body's own lymphatic system. The lymphatic system is responsible for removing waste substances and toxins, and when it doesn't function optimally, you may feel swollen and stiff in the body. You can read more about the lymphatic system on Morotsliv. By deep breathing, bouncing on a trampoline, or exercising, you help the flow of lymph. But 5 minutes of dry brushing can be as effective for lymph flow as 30 minutes of physical exercise! The Brush The best is to invest in a brush made of natural fibers. If your skin easily becomes red and irritated, choose a softer brush, and if you have more resilient skin, you can choose a medium or firmer one. It should not scratch or hurt, but a brush that is too soft is not as effective. A glove also works well. If it is hard to reach your feet and back, you can use a brush with a long handle. Different models of brushes and gloves are available in our range. How to Do It! Take a few deep breaths to awaken the lymphatic system. You can also tap yourself below the collarbones and rise onto your toes a few times while deep breathing to get the lymph flowing. When dry brushing, use circular, massaging movements. Scrub carefully, but not too hard. Your skin may also become slightly red as blood circulation starts, but this is completely normal. How to Dry Brush (5-10 min) Start from the feet and brush/massage in circles up along the entire legs. Do the front, inside, back, and outside. Be extra thorough in the knee creases and groin areas. Dry brush the stomach below the navel in circular motions down towards the groin, and above the navel brush in circles upwards towards the heart and collarbones. Then continue with the hands and arms. Massage from the hands up to the shoulders. Be extra thorough in the elbow creases and armpits. Brush the back in circles from the spine out towards the sides. Shower off all dead skin cells. Finish by moisturizing. You can, for example, use cold-pressed coconut oil, another skin oil, or lotion while the skin is still slightly damp. Repeat dry brushing for 5-10 minutes every morning on dry skin for 3 months. After that, 1-2 times a week is enough. Avoid varicose veins, superficial blood vessels, and the face. Read more11 tips for optimal use of your Omega MM900 Juicer
To give you the best experience with your juicer, for a long time and with the best possible results, we have gathered valuable information and tips for you. Contents ☝🏼 How to assemble the parts correctly🐢 Juice slowly and patiently💃 How to juice more than 0.5 liters at a time🕒 The machine's time limit🥬 How to juice celery🥶 How to juice softer ingredients🔧 Set your endcap correctly🍊 Alternate soft and hard vegetables/fruits👌🏼 Tips for drier pulp and more juice🌱 Get less fiber in your juice🪥 How to clean the machine ☝🏼 How to assemble the parts correctly It's important to assemble the machine correctly depending on what you will use it for. Please keep the instruction manual handy near the machine, follow the picture on page 5 in the manual to see how to assemble correctly. If this is not followed carefully, the hole in the press chamber can be damaged – the press roller can rub against the yellow ring, and cracks around the ring may occur 🥲 Keep in mind that the warranty does not cover misuse of the machine. In this video, you can see how to assemble an Omega MM900: 🐢 Juice slowly and patiently If it goes too fast, more heat is generated, and the press chamber must not get too hot. That's why it's good to feed the machine slowly so it can keep up, one ingredient at a time. Let most of the juice drain out before adding new ingredients. You can also use the reverse mode if you see it clumping. 💃 How to juice more than 0.5 liters at a time It's good to clean the end cap from fibers after you've juiced 0.5 liters, then you can continue. If clumps form in the press chamber, you can use the juicer’s reverse mode for a few seconds and then start again. 🕒 Machine time limit Use the machine for no more than 30 minutes at a time, then let it rest for a while before continuing. 🥬 How to juice celery Then insert the whole celery stalks into the juicer; they should not be cut into pieces. Here you can read our blog article about celery juice🌱 🥶 How to juice softer ingredients Take them out of the fridge just before juicing so they are crisp. Another factor affecting juice extraction is the quality of the raw material, which can vary throughout the year in different countries. The freshness and crispness of your fruits and vegetables will also affect the efficiency of your juicer. 👌🏼 Here is a video on how to juice soft vegetables and fruits: 🔧 How to adjust your end cap The celery end cap (the outermost part of the press chamber) is used only for celery. The standard end cap is used for other soft fruits and vegetables, such as cucumber, tomato, and citrus fruits. You can also press wild herbs, wheatgrass, barley grass, lettuce leaves, kale, spinach, and other chlorophyll-rich plants with this cap. Start by turning the end cap counterclockwise to “Max.” This increases resistance for the fibers to exit and yields the most juice. However, this can cause the press chamber to heat up, so be careful and don’t run at max speed unless necessary. If the press chamber gets too hot, the end cap can become deformed. Therefore, slowly turn down the adjustable end cap if you start to notice fibers gathering and causing a blockage in the press chamber. When the fibers start coming out again, you can adjust the end cap back to the max setting and resume juicing. We recommend juicing at max speed for a short time, then reducing to half speed for a while. Repeat this throughout the juicing session for the best results. The following video shows how to use the endcap on the MM900: 🍊 Alternate between soft and firm vegetables and fruits If you juice anything other than celery (with the standard end cap), then feed in some parts of the softer vegetable/fruit (e.g., orange) and then some of the firmer vegetable/fruit (e.g., carrot). Then continue to alternate back and forth. Always finish with your solid product. 👌🏼 Tips for drier pulp and more juice Our experience is that you can extract more juice than you think with a little finesse. There are two methods worth trying if you want to get as much juice as possible: Turn on the reverse briefly at the end when juicing, then run forward again. This gives the last fibers a chance to be pressed properly and come out of the press housing. Feed some of the fiber that has already come out back in so it passes through a second time. This way, the very last juice is pressed out. 🌱 How to get less fiber in your juice Even here, it’s difficult to achieve a perfect result with juice completely free of fiber. But there are two tips that help: Juice slowly and don’t feed more fruit or vegetables if the juicer is already processing a large mass. Instead, gently feed in one piece at a time to reduce fiber running out with the juice. Empty the press housing of fiber when you see it starting to fill up or after juicing 0.5 liters. This way, you avoid fiber getting into the juice outlet. 🪥 Machine cleaning It’s easy to clean your MM900. It has only a few parts to disassemble and clean. You can also wash them in the upper rack of the dishwasher. But to prevent dirt from sticking, we recommend washing the parts immediately after use. Wash them with warm water, liquid dish soap, and the included cleaning brush. Over time, mineral deposits can form on the press housing. To fix this, soak them in a mixture of water and vinegar or acetic acid at least once a week for about 2-4 hours (or overnight). Here is a video on how to deep clean your juicer: We hope this information is helpful to you and that you will enjoy your new Omega juicer.
