Bicarbonate is a versatile natural product. Use bicarbonate to replace traditional cleaning agents in an environmentally friendly way. It neutralizes odors, making it suitable for cleaning and laundry.
Cleaning tips with bicarbonate:
- Sprinkle on mattresses, sofas, or carpets, let sit for 30 minutes and vacuum up. Removes odor and reduces dust mites.
- Perfect as a vacuum cleaner fragrance.
- Suitable for most surfaces in the home. For extra tough cleaning, e.g. stovetop or toilet: first pour on vinegar and then bicarbonate for maximum effect. The surface becomes thoroughly cleaned, without any harmful residues.
- Use as a natural bleach in laundry and as a stain remover.
- Sprinkle in smelly shoes.

Facts: Bicarbonate is made from sodium salt from carbonic acid, a natural combination of carbon dioxide and water. Previously, it was extracted from soda, but today it is usually produced with carbon dioxide from sources like rock salt. Bicarbonate can be purified to almost 100% and should not be confused with baking powder, which consists of sodium bicarbonate mixed with stabilizing and anti-caking agents.
Bicarbonate is slightly alkaline and gets a pH value of about 8 when mixed with water. It is a completely natural substance found in oceans, waterways, and in the ground. It contains no corrosive substances like many industrial cleaning and laundry detergents do. Household bicarbonate is non-toxic and can be used without risk to children, pets, or plants.
