Berkey's Phoenix Gravity filter provides effective filtration that removes or reduces sediment, rust, turbidity, pesticides, herbicides, heavy metals, VOCs, PFAS, PFOA, PFOS and other common contaminants. Advanced microfiltration with a microporous structure creates a ‘meandering path’ that effectively traps undissolved particles. This provides clean, natural-tasting water that retains beneficial minerals such as calcium and magnesium. The service life is 22,000 litres per pair (12–24 months depending on use). 2 filters compatible with all Berkey® systems.

Phoenix Gravity Filters
These filters for Berkey water purifiers use high-quality activated carbon made from CTC 60 coconut shells for exceptional adsorption capacity. It has been processed at high temperatures and contains millions of micropores that can adsorb a wide range of contaminants found in drinking water.
Its dense and microporous structure effectively removes sediment, rust, heavy metals, pesticides, herbicides and other contaminants, while maintaining an excellent water flow rate. It provides clean water with a neutral taste that retains essential minerals such as calcium and magnesium. Compatible with all Berkey® systems.
The filters contain safe and durable materials with glass fibre reinforced polymer, BPA-free, which meet NSF/FDA food standards. They are easily replaced in the upper chamber of your Berkey® or other gravity system. They are also compatible with Berkey PF-2® elements for fluoride and arsenic reduction.
Estimated lifespan: Up to 22,000 litres per pair (12–24 months depending on usage). Flow rate ≈ 16 l/hour with a full upper chamber.
Note: Before inserting the new films, they need to be primed – they need to be saturated – to remove the air inside so that the water can pass through easily.
How does the filter work?
Phoenix Gravity New Millennium Edition™ filter elements contain a dense and compact matrix with millions of microscopic pores. These pores create a ‘winding path’ that traps silt, sediment, colloids (turbidity), rust, undissolved types of herbicides, pesticides and heavy metals. This prevents them from passing through the pores in the filter wall, a process known as microfiltration.
In addition, the adsorption properties of activated carbon adsorb and bind organic contaminants such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs), man-made substances, compounds and chemicals, such as perfluorinated ‘forever chemicals’ (PFAS, PFOA and PFOS), industrial and toxic chemicals (SOC), disinfectants, pesticides, herbicides, pharmaceuticals and chlorine. Certain inorganic elements and compounds are reduced, such as various heavy metals. This process is enhanced by extended contact time, where gravity gently pulls water through the filter for extended media interaction and effective reduction of contaminants, resulting in removed or reduced contaminants and improved taste and odour of the filtered drinking water.
Do filter elements remove healthy minerals or electrolytes?
Phoenix Gravity filter elements are not designed to remove minerals from your water supply. Because the natural filtration process leaves important minerals such as magnesium and calcium in the water, the filter does not change the total dissolved solids (TDS) level, which remains unchanged.
Do Phoenix Gravity filter cartridges reduce ‘forever chemicals’?
Yes, filter cartridges have been proven to effectively reduce PFOA, PFAS and PFOS according to laboratory tests conducted by independent accredited laboratories.
Is the filter dripping too slowly?
What usually causes filters to drip slowly is turbidity and sediment clogging the micro-pores in the cartridges. Simply remove the elements from your system and clean them by scrubbing the outside of each element under running water with a green scrubber or stiff toothbrush. It's easy to do and takes less than a minute per element. If they don't filter faster after cleaning, it's time to replace them.
