Various herbs and spices can really help support the body, strengthen health, and improve gut health. Many of them contain amazing health-promoting plant compounds that are perfect for anyone who wants to eat a more anti-inflammatory diet.
A very simple way to consume more anti-inflammatory spices is to make your own spice blend. Here is a recipe with just 5 ingredients that you can quickly mix together yourself. The spice blend is perfect to use when, for example, flavoring your breakfast or baking.
You can add it to things such as oatmeal, quinoa porridge, overnight oats, or gluten-free pancakes. Black pepper is often used together with turmeric because it contains piperine, a compound that may increase the body’s absorption of curcumin. Curcumin is the most studied anti-inflammatory compound in turmeric.
Feel free to make a larger batch of the spice blend by doubling the recipe. Organic spices are recommended.
Ingredients:
3 tsp ground Ceylon cinnamon
2 tsp ground cardamom
1 tsp dried, ground turmeric
0.5 tsp ground cloves
A pinch of ground black pepper
Instructions:
Measure and mix all the ingredients in a glass jar. Seal with a lid and store at a cool room temperature.
I love adding a few pinches of this to pancakes, overnight oats, and porridge.
There is a lot we can do to support the body and live a more anti-inflammatory lifestyle, with diet and strong gut health playing an important role.
