This beautiful African black soap is traditionally handmade and fair trade certified by a women's cooperative in Ghana, West Africa.
Cocoa leaves and cocoa husks
The women use techniques that have been used for thousands of years. Black soap is a unique soap made with potassium lye. The potassium lye is produced from cocoa leaves, cocoa husks, and plantain leaves. This plant-based solution gives the black soap its characteristic chocolate brown color.
High shea butter content gives a creamy texture
African Black Soap has a wonderfully creamy lather that leaves the skin hydrated and soft. The high shea butter content in black soap gives it the creamy texture ideal for dry and sensitive skin. It has a mild, neutral scent with no added fragrance.
Organic shea butter, coconut oil, palm oil, and cocoa butter
It is made from 50% pure, organic shea butter, saponified coconut oil, saponified palm oil, and cocoa butter. No chemicals, preservatives, or fragrances are added.
Who is the soap suitable for?
African Black Soap is suitable as a body soap for everyone. Thanks to the purity and simplicity of the ingredients, it is one of the most skin-friendly soaps available.
It also works excellently as a natural shampoo for very dry hair. As a facial soap, it suits oily and acne-prone skin (not for very dry faces).
Saponified Shea Butter* (Butyrospermum parkii), Saponified Coconut Oil* (sodium cocoate), Saponified Palm Oil* (Elaeis Guineensis), and Cocoa Butter* (Theobroma cacao). Nothing else. *Wildcrafted, Fairly traded.

Made by a women's cooperative in Ghana, West Africa. They produce environmentally friendly and socially responsible African products, such as organic shea butter. This project enables thousands of Ghanaian women to supply the international market with their products. By supporting such projects, we help protect tree populations, such as the shea parks. It also helps preserve the biodiversity and natural habitats of the hippos living along the Black Volta River.
Akamuti creates natural and organic products with care for both people and the environment. The raw materials are carefully selected, and the products contain no synthetic preservatives or unnecessary additives.
The company places great emphasis on ethically and sustainably sourced ingredients and works as directly as possible with the producers. Through long-term collaborations, they contribute to more sustainable trade and strengthen the livelihoods of small local communities around the world. Each product is handmade with a focus on quality, craftsmanship, and care at every step.
This soap absorbs water easily, so keep it on a soap dish. It is softer than commercial soap, making it easy to cut off a piece and use a small amount at a time. Since this is a handmade product, you might find a small piece of gravel or wood in it, so rub it into your hands first instead of directly on your body.
