Description
Beeswax is waxy, very rich in fat, and has a high melting point of - 63°C. It is used in candle making, ointments, lip balms, and rich creams as a consistency agent and emollient.
Beeswax is also excellent for other applications, such as waterproofing tents and other items, making candles, or creating beeswax wraps.
Beeswax protects against the weather, repels cold and water, and preserves heat and moisture. It also soothes irritated skin and softens dry, chapped skin. Beeswax is not absorbed by the skin but forms a layer on the surface with a rich, waxy feel. It does not clog the pores like unnatural paraffin and also has antibiotic properties.
The wax comes in the form of small pellets that are easy to melt. Crearome's beeswax is yellow and untreated, so it has a beeswax scent.
Beeswax is best melted in a bain-marie together with oil and fat. You can, for example, melt:
- Beeswax
- Fat such as coconut oil or cocoa butter
- Oil such as almond oil, avocado oil, or castor oil
- And a little essential oil.
Essential oils often have antibacterial properties and provide a pleasant scent or flavour if you are making a lip balm. There are countless recipes online.
The mixture can then be poured into, for example, a small glass jar if you wish to make an ointment. Store in a cool, dark place, preferably in the refrigerator.
