Christmas is a wonderful time for most children, and many especially enjoy the holiday that stretches from the days before Christmas Eve all the way into January of the next year. But what do you do when all that free time starts to feel a bit boring? We have the tips!
1. Have a home spa
Children need pampering too, and most love this cozy activity! Offer a massage of the back, head, hands, legs, or wherever feels good and comfortable for the child. Use a skin-friendly oil for better glide. Remember to massage gently at first as it might feel unfamiliar. Pour a foot bath and add a little oil to soften the feet or fill up a bathtub with warm water and bubble bath and let the child relax properly.Consider serving something refreshing to drink like freshly pressed organic juice or water.
2. Go on an adventure
Pack a delicious organic packed lunch and fill a thermos with hot homemade chocolate, then go on an adventure in the forest among gnomes and trolls. Wear warm clothes, bring something to sit on, and create wonderful childhood memories!
3. Let the children go on a treasure hunt!
Draw a simple treasure map of your home garden or the forest. Make small notes with riddles, math problems, or fun questions. Hide the notes and mark on the map where each note is located. When the children have found all the notes and solved the problems, they get a final clue from you describing where the treasure is hidden! The treasure can be an item, something to eat, or an experience like a swimming ticket, bowling ticket, or something else fun that you know your child enjoys doing.
4. Host a masquerade party
Draw and craft fun invitations for friends, neighbor kids, or cousins and invite them to a masquerade party that includes face painting. Let the children come dressed up however they want and create simple face paintings on their cheeks or foreheads. Blow up a bunch of balloons and play musical statues for as long as the children want and have energy!
5. Build a fort & read a book
Building a fort is fun for both young and older children, and everyone can do it. Use a table or other furniture and hang a blanket over it. Make it cozy with something soft to lie on, some pillows, and a lamp. Voilà! You now have the coziest hideaway where you can snuggle up with a book together with a parent or a friend. Reading aloud to your child is very important and great for the child's language development.
6. Bake something delicious together
Put on your aprons, take out bowls and spoons, and find that favorite recipe you otherwise never have time for. During the Christmas holidays, you'll find time for that cozy baking session that children will remember for a lifetime. Out of ideas? No worries - here we offer our recipe bank with a whole 126 recipes for many different occasions!
7. Play movie theater
On that day when it's raining or just too cold outside, a little movietime can be perfect! Let the children draw tickets that you hand out to all the moviegoers. Fill the sofa with extra pillows, blankets, and other cozy items. Find an old classic on TV that you think suits the whole family and prepare some snacks like these wonderfully delicious cheese-flavored popcorn, a super tasty caramel pie, Christmas candy, or a fruit platter with organic yummy fruits. Dim the lights in the room and enjoy the movie and each other's company!
8. Organize a game night with the whole family!
Invite grandma, aunts, cousins, and the rest of the family to a fun game night. Let the children choose the games they most want to play and roll a die to decide which game to start with. The child who gets the highest number wins and you'll start with that game. Play games for as long as you have energy and remember: Being a good loser is great. Being a good winner is even greater 😉
