The common perception is that all vegetable oils are greasy. There's an abundance of different oils, with various properties and "greasiness." The tricky part is knowing which one suits your own skin type. You can of course buy pre-mixed facial and body oils, but it's nice to try them one by one to see which works best for your particular skin type. Then you can even blend your own customized oil. It's both fun and economical. Oil is the purest thing you can put on your skin and is therefore the best option for sensitive skin and problem skin. Here we share five favorites!

1. Castor Oil

This renowned oil is often used on the scalp and hair. Many people find it promotes hair growth and creates thicker, fuller, and shinier hair in just 2-4 weeks. Some have even experienced longer eyelashes. Castor oil is very rich and sticky, so it can be troublesome to wash out of your hair, but may be worth the effort if it works for you. Another unique property is that castor oil is incredibly cleansing, meaning it draws out impurities from the skin like no other oil. Makeup disappears in an instant. Keep in mind that it's so rich and cleansing that it can make your skin drier if you use it alone. Therefore, it's wise to mix it with another neutral oil.

2. Evening Primrose Oil

A dry oil that is absorbed directly by the skin. Excellent for all problem skin types such as itchy eczema, seborrheic dermatitis on skin and scalp, atopic eczema, psoriasis, dry and flaky skin, and itching. It also works well as a serum under a face cream or another facial oil.

3. Green Avocado Oil

A very nutritious and mild oil. It is rich but not sticky, and leaves your skin feeling velvety smooth, though it takes a long time to absorb into the skin.

  • Protects against weather and wind and is moisture-retaining.

  • Gives the skin suppleness and a fresh glow.

  • Soothes both skin irritations and sunburn.

4. Almond Oil

Is neither too rich nor too dry. The oil is popular because it is mild, softening, and cleansing.

  • Is very good at softening rough and dry skin.

  • Is excellent as a cleansing oil for the face as it removes makeup.

5. Jojoba Oil

It is slightly waxy and protects against weather and wind without clogging. The skin becomes neither sticky, greasy, nor shiny. Jojoba oil absorbs well into the skin and provides moisture and softness. The best thing about jojoba oil is that it soothes all itching. Many find it calms eczema, including seborrheic dermatitis.
