The skin is a permeable barrier as it is our largest organ. That's why it's especially important that you use products that strengthen – and don't damage – this delicate barrier. Skin is highly absorbent, which you notice when you apply moisturizer. Ideally, we shouldn't put anything on our skin that we wouldn't eat. The same applies to hair care products and oral care products. It's simply better for you, nature, and animals to use natural products. In this article, we go through which chemicals we think you should watch out for in your bathroom cabinet. If you already have some of these in your products, it might be a good idea to clean out your bathroom cabinet and replace them with better alternatives. All hair and skincare products sold on Glimja.se are completely free from harmful preservatives, synthetic additives, animal derivatives, and other ingredients that are not good for us or the planet in the long run. Our products instead contain natural ingredients such as organic oils, fats and waxes, vitamins, plants and herbs, essential oils, etc. They have nourishing and healing properties that lay the foundation for long-term health and sustainability.

Guide: How to Detox Your Home to Eliminate Harmful Chemicals and Toxins

"In the safe haven of home," as the saying goes. And surely home should be a safe place even when it comes to chemicals. Unfortunately, there can be many hidden chemicals lurking in our homes. Chemicals enter our homes in various ways. And most of it we actually bring into our homes voluntarily through the purchases we make. Often completely unaware of what substances are hiding in our tools, gadgets, and furnishings. When it comes to chemicals in the home, perhaps the first thing we think of are the chemicals in cleaning products. But then we have a lot of chemicals that we often don't even think about, which are constantly emitted from our electronics, plastic floors, furniture, and textiles. Chemicals that can disrupt our hormone balance or cause allergies or cancer. Plastic is a fantastic material and is, despite everything, necessary in our modern society. But various chemicals are used in plastic to give it different properties so that, for example, it doesn't crack easily or can withstand strong sunlight. Color and fragrance additives can also be added. Unfortunately, these chemicals slowly leak out of the plastic. And as a consumer, it's almost impossible to keep track of which plastics are dangerous and which are not. Legislation, controls, and labeling make it a little easier.

Chemical Guide: Children's Room

Older toys often contain much higher levels of harmful chemicals than those produced today. This is mainly because previously there was a lack of knowledge about how many of the substances used in, e.g., plastic affected and still affect both humans and the environment. Therefore, it's a good idea to start by removing the oldest plastic toys from your home. Today, legislation is much stronger and modern toys are safer. However, there is still a lack of knowledge about more than 90% of all chemicals used in plastic, so it's best to avoid plastic toys as much as possible and instead choose toys made from safer materials, such as wood, rubberwood, wool, organic cotton, stainless steel, and natural rubber. Keep in mind that some soft toys that appear to be made of cotton may actually be made from textiles containing plastic.

Chemical Guide: Kitchen

Studies have shown that more than 90% of all plastic releases additives when the plastic becomes warm. There is no safe temperature, as chemicals from plastic can leach even with minimal heating. Fat has also been shown to make plastic more likely to release substances that can be hormone-disrupting for humans. Therefore, you should avoid using plastic in the kitchen. Otherwise, we risk having harmful chemicals end up in the food we eat and the beverages we drink. If we ingest these substances, they can cause problems and lead to health issues later in life. But don't despair. There are other materials that we know with certainty do not release particles and that you can therefore safely use instead. Safe materials include stainless steel, glass, porcelain, untreated wood, and solid bamboo. Bamboo fiber is often said to be a good and non-toxic material, but it can contain additives such as plastic and melamine that can leach. (Sometimes bamboo can be okay, but many times there are additives that leach even there. In that case, it's important to ensure that the bamboo products you use don't contain any harmful additives.) All bamboo sold here at Glimja is solid and safe to use because it doesn't contain any harmful additives.
