For those of you who think that soap nuts aren't effective enough as laundry detergent. Make your own liquid detergent with soap nuts for stronger washing power. Clever, isn't it?

Recipe for liquid detergent with soap nuts

  • Boil 50 g of soap nuts with 1 liter of water for 10-15 min.

  • Remove the pot from the heat and let it cool.

  • When the brew has cooled, strain out the soap nuts. Store the liquid detergent in a glass bottle.

  • Then pour 250 ml of liquid detergent into the detergent compartment of your machine.

  • The detergent lasts about 1-2 weeks without refrigeration. If you store it in the refrigerator, it will last longer. Make sure to clearly label the bottle so the contents aren't mistaken for food. If you want the detergent to last even longer, you can freeze it in cubes and take them out when needed.

  • Save the soap nuts as they can be boiled 5 more times, giving you a total of 6 liters of liquid detergent!

  • Compost the soap nuts when they're used up. This is incredibly eco-friendly, allergy-friendly, fragrance-free and inexpensive! Zero waste. You can buy these soap nuts in 500 g packages which yields 60 liters of liquid detergent, enough for 240 loads of laundry.

Soap nuts are actually fruits, but they're foolishly called nuts because of how they look. Soap nuts can therefore be used by people with nut allergies.
