6 Simple Tips & Natural Products for Dry Skin and Eczema

Do you have dry skin or eczema? You're not alone. In this article, we share our best tips and products.

1. Eat clean

Nutrition and our eating habits make the biggest difference for our health on all levels, including our skin. This is perhaps something many already know, but it can also be one of the most difficult things to change.

Food that can trigger eczema and skin problems

  • Milk

  • Gluten and especially wheat

  • White sugar

  • Fried food

  • Artificial additives

Eat more of

  • Vegetables

  • Sprouts

  • Fermented vegetables

  • Fruits and berries

  • Healthy fats, such as various cold-pressed oils, extra virgin olive oil, and avocado

  • Pumpkin seeds and other seeds

  • Chia seeds

2. Take supplements

  • Probiotics – lactic acid bacteria can make a big difference for the skin, as the skin often reflects digestion, that is, how your gut feels.

  • Vitamin D is another product that many people with eczema or other skin problems have had good results with. If you suspect vitamin D deficiency, take at least 2000 IU per day.

  • Zinc helps with dry skin and problem skin.

  • Vitamin C supports collagen production, heals wounds, and reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

3. Add moisture to your home

Dry home conditions can make skin issues and especially eczema worse, in which case you can benefit from a humidifier in your home.

4. Combat stress

Stress is often a trigger for eczema and psoriasis. High cortisol levels (our stress hormones) worsen inflammation throughout the body, including the skin.

Relaxation is key

Be careful with consuming too much stimulants like coffee, tea, cocoa, and alcohol. If you have trouble relaxing in the evening, meditation, relaxation exercises, calming music, or a magnesium drink are excellent aids.

5. Use natural products

Make sure your beauty, hygiene, and cleaning products are natural. If you have very sensitive skin, it may also be good to avoid fragrance in products even if they have natural ingredients.

Moisturize your body daily

  • Pure Shea butter is a rich cream that has helped many people. If you find it too greasy, you can mix it with an oil such as Evening Primrose Oil especially for eczema and itching.

If you have very dry skin, it's good to

  • Shower in the evening and use a natural, mild soap. Soap is usually only needed under the arms and on hands and feet; water is sufficient for the rest of the body.

  • Moisturize afterward over your entire body.

  • Moisturize again the following morning but without showering.

6. A day at the beach with sun

Many people with problem skin report improvement after moderate sun exposure and swimming in a salt sea.

Bring the sea home with a DIY sea spray

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (250 ml) of boiled water. Instead of boiled water, you can choose an herbal tea as long as the tea is made from dried herbs. Chamomile tea works excellently for sensitive skin.

  • 1 tablespoon of Himalayan salt or sea salt.

  • 1 pinch of Epsom salt.

How to do it

  • Add salt and Epsom salt to the warm water and stir until the salt is completely dissolved.

  • Store the solution in a glass jar or spray bottle. Apply to the skin by spraying or, if you are very sensitive, dab the solution on the skin with a cotton pad.
