Raw Cacao Nibs
Cacao beans are one of the most complex and nutrient-rich plants in existence. They are an excellent source of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, proteins, and healthy fats. The cacao bean contains magnesium, calcium, iron, phosphorus, potassium, chromium, and B-vitamins, among others. The amino acid Tryptophan occurs naturally in cacao. Tryptophan is, among other things, essential for the production of Serotonin. Cacao also contains the substance Phenylethylamine (PEA), a chemical that the body produces when falling in love; this is likely the reason why chocolate and love are often associated with each other.
Alive Foods cacao beans are premium quality Criollo beans that are crushed to create so-called cacao nibs. They are partially fermented to minimize bitterness and are processed at very low temperatures to maintain maximum nutritional value. As soon as the beans are removed from the cacao fruit, they are rinsed in purified water before being peeled and crushed into smaller pieces called "nibs".
Usage: Eat the nibs as they are, make your own raw food balls, create raw truffles, sprinkle over a fruit salad, make an energy mix with e.g. pumpkin seeds, nuts, inca berries and goji berries, or add to a smoothie. Can also be nicely sprinkled directly over a salad.
