Methylfolate
The bioactive form of folate is called 5-methyltetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF), also known as methylfolate. A relatively large proportion of the population has reduced ability to convert synthetic folic acid to the active form 5-MTHF. Folic acid is the synthetic form used in supplements and food fortification, while folate is the natural form found in food. To get sufficient amounts of natural folate, regular intake of green vegetables is therefore required.
Folate and folic acid have many important functions in the body, beyond contributing to tissue growth in pregnant women. Folate/folic acid is also important for fertility in both women and men and is significant for sperm production in men.
Adult dosage: 1 capsule per day with food.
Recommended dose should not be exceeded. Dietary supplements should not be used as an alternative to a varied diet. Store in a dry place and out of reach of children.
