Nature et Progres Certification - France: France's certification is awarded to harvested salt according to ecological methods and standards. Nature et Progrès is the highest level of permitted certification. The producer is identified and regularly monitored by independent certification bodies. The salt is unrefined and completely natural, harvested in a protected, non-polluted environment. The salt beds must be located at least 500 m from main roads and are free from pesticides, chemical residues, or air pollution.
Respect for product quality from harvest to final packaging is of utmost importance. The salt 'harvesters' only use untreated wood or polyethylene tools. It is mandatory to have protection between the ground and the salt, and the salt must be harvested with uncontaminated equipment.
COMMON CUSTOMER QUESTIONS ABOUT CELTIC SEA SALT:
Does Celtic Sea Salt contain iodine?
Celtic Sea Salt contains naturally occurring trace elements of iodine. It is approximately 0.68 parts per million. Although iodine is an important mineral component, sea salt is not considered a significant source of it. However, sea salt is a natural, pure source of iodine that is quickly absorbed by the body.
Table salt labeled as containing iodine typically means that iodine has been chemically added to the salt, possibly using an artificial additive to bind the iodine to the salt.
If you want more iodine, Celtic Sea Salt® Gourmet Seaweed with added seaweed for natural iodine is available: approximately 350 mcg iodine per ¼ tsp. Seaweed is an excellent source of iodine.
What does Selina Naturally say about plastic in sea salt?
There have been several articles circulating regarding plastic found in the oceans and sea salt. Here at Selina Naturally®, we have taken an extra step to test our salt in response to the recently published "microplastic" publications. As of June 2017, we sent our Light Grey Celtic® salt to McCrone Associates, Inc. Laboratory to perform a food medical analysis and were pleased to see that the results were clear, "no rubber or plastic-like material was visible". We will continue to employ the best testing methods to maintain the integrity you expect from our sea salt.
Can salt go bad?
Celtic Sea Salt is a mineral, not an organic substance. Therefore, it does not go bad. On the contrary, salt is a natural preservative.
