Spring Dragon Longevity Tea
Spring Dragon is an amazing herbal tea made with Gynostemma, Schizandra, Goji, Astragalus, and Eleuthero. It is caffeine-free. The base consists of Gynostemma, which has traditionally been consumed just like green tea, having a similar taste but milder and sweeter in flavor.
Gynostemma is rich in saponins that are similar to those found in ginseng and Siberian ginseng/Russian root. Gynostemma tea is delicious and refreshing, as well as very rich in antioxidants. The saponins in Gynostemma are called gypenosides. There are at least 82 gypenosides in Gynostemma.
This Gynostemma grows wild on the fertile slopes of Great Immortal Peak, which belongs to Wu Yi Mountain in China. The Gynostemma fields are watered by a natural stream and have now been growing there for seventeen years. No chemicals have ever been used on the land. There is no road leading to the land, only narrow, winding footpaths. The result is the sweetest, strongest
In addition to Gynostemma, these amazing herbs are included in the tea:
Schizandra / Wu Wei Zi - Known as "the quintessence of Chinese herbs". Schizandra is a delicious, exotic berry. It is a potent antioxidant and adaptogen.
Goji berries - Known in Asia as a premium herb, this small fruit is very rich in antioxidants and polysaccharides.
Astragalus - Astragalus is highly valued and rich in saponins (astragalosides) and polysaccharides.
Eleuthero / Siberian Ginseng - Eleuthero is also rich in saponins just like ginseng and is an adaptogen. In the West, this root is best known as Siberian Ginseng.
Luo Han Guo - This delicious, exotic fruit has been used for centuries. This fruit gives the tea a naturally wonderful sweet taste.
Usage: Use one tea bag for a large teapot or large thermos (leave the tea bag in). One bag otherwise makes several cups of tea (approximately 3) and can be used multiple times - steeping for 30 seconds
- 2 minutes depending on how strong you want the tea. We think the tea tastes best when brewed slightly weaker, but this is of course a matter of taste. One package contains 20 tea bags and makes 60 cups. You can drink 1-10 cups of tea per day. The tea can be enjoyed both hot and cold depending on the season and your needs. The tea is already sweet and delicious but can of course be sweetened with e.g., stevia or honey.
Contraindications: Gynostemma has a mild blood-thinning effect and should therefore not be taken regularly by those who are on blood-thinning medications, immunosuppressive drugs, or if you have a condition with increased risk of bleeding.
Contents: 20 bags per package.
Traditional Function in Chinese Medicine: Tonifies all 3 treasures*, is immune-regulating and an adaptogen.
*In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), "The 3 Treasures" are considered central concepts for our well-being - a long and happy life.
The 3 Treasures are: Jing - our original energy. Qi - the energy that circulates
and is used in daily life. Shen - our soul or "wisdom mind".
When these three are strong and in harmony, it is said that a person is in a state of "health beyond danger" and is well on their way to living a long, wise, and happy life. This is the foundation, according to Taoists, for being able to express our full potential as human beings.
One way to look at it is to compare our being to a candle;
Jing is the wax itself - the fundamental energy that nourishes the other two. Qi is the wick - that which makes it possible for the light to burn. Shen is the light or fire itself; that which illuminates, spreads light and warmth around, and determines how brightly it burns.
What is an Adaptogen?
Adaptogens are herbs/plants that work to increase the body's ability to adapt to various forms of physical, mental, chemical, or biological stress and changing situations. Adaptogens help create a state of balance in the body and make the body more adaptable. They simply provide
simply strength, endurance and protection against stress.
The History Behind Spring Dragon Tea:
In 1992, Ron Teeguarden traveled to China to oversee the production of herbal formulations. Due to a ticket mistake, he was upgraded to first class and, by coincidence, found himself seated next to Professor Xiao Peigen from China. Also by "coincidence," Ron had an article written by Professor Xiao himself in his travel bag. The article was titled "Chinese Herbs with Anti-aging Effects." It turned out that Xiao Peigun was the director of The Institute for Medicinal Plant Development in Beijing; a major research institute affiliated with the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. He was also the head of the Collaborating Centre for Traditional Medicine. In other words, he was one of the world's most knowledgeable herbal experts. Since Ron had the article with him, Professor Xiao took Ron under his wing. Ron asked Professor Xiao if he knew of any special herbs with
significant anti-aging properties. Professor Xiao immediately replied that Gynostemma was exactly what he was looking for.
Ron had previously encountered a special, traditional Chinese method for brewing "longevity tea"; where extracted herbs are infused into tea leaves. Ron decided to use this ancient technique to infuse Gynostemma along with several other herbs that had a traditional reputation as "anti-aging herbs". With the help of Yanlin - Ron's wife, he found a "tea master" who knew the secret of how to produce "longevity teas". After experimenting for several months, Spring Dragon Tea was born.
Shortly after, Ron and Yanlin met a professor who worked as a director in the Fujian province's forestry department. Professor Field suggested they should grow Gynostemma in the mountains. They immediately agreed, and Professor Field found virgin land near Great Immortal Peak, which is part of Wu Yi Mountain in China.
Gynostemma now grows wild and abundantly on the fertile slopes of Great Immortal Peak
(together with leopards, monkeys, wild boars and many other types of wildlife). The Gynostemma fields are watered by a natural stream and have now been growing there for seventeen years. No chemicals have ever been used on the soil. There is no road leading to the land, only narrow, winding footpaths. The result is the sweetest, strongest Gynostemma imaginable.
