Often we write a "shopping list" when we go to the store, or a "to-do list" when we go to work. So that we can make sure we get everything done or buy everything we need that day. But what about a "most-important-to-me" list? A list that ensures we focus on what's most important during the new year!
Has this year given you more appreciation for life? Then make sure to make the most of 2023!
We usually dedicate New Year's Eve (or the day after New Year's Eve) to a very simple but powerful New Year's exercise that helps us reflect on the past year and make the most of the new year. You can also do it together with someone or by yourself. It was actually through an intention exercise like this that ClearLife.se (which is now Glimja.se) took shape during New Year's ten years ago. Who knows what might happen next in your life?
Step 1
Write down 3-5 things (or more) that you appreciated about the past year that you want to bring with you into 2023. It might feel difficult depending on the circumstances, but take your time. Perhaps you got to spend more time with your children, got to know yourself better, or found a new hobby? Choose the very best things from 2022 that you'd like to see more of in the future. Take some time to feel what these things really mean to you.
Step 2
Take a moment and consider for each item (write it down if you wish):
– How would life look if you put this more at the center in the coming year?
– What's the best thing that could happen then?
Step 3
For each thing you want more of during 2023, write down 3-5 practical actions (or more) that you need to take to make sure it happens. Perhaps you need to schedule time, start meditating, save money, book a meeting with someone, change jobs, talk about your feelings, say no, etc.
Step 4
Put up your list somewhere you can see it. If you want, you can update it regularly throughout the new year and check off the practical items as you complete them. If you want and have time, a nice addition is to create a "vision board" where you cut, paste, and paint a picture of how you will feel and how your life will look when you have more of these things in your life. Take what you like from this article and make the process your own. Feel free to share with us how it goes!
