Evening primrose oil is produced from the evening primrose flower, whose seeds are cold-pressed to extract the oil. A very beautiful flower with a pleasant scent. Evening primrose oil is rich in GLA (gamma-linolenic acid), an omega-6 fatty acid, which means it is an essential fatty acid that the body cannot produce on its own. These fatty acids play a vital role in the skin's elasticity and its ability to retain moisture. GLA is found in evening primrose, borage, blackcurrant seeds, blue-green algae, and breast milk. The oil is dry and nourishing and regulates moisture. For skincare, this oil can be used pure or diluted with another oil such as apricot kernel oil, sesame oil, almond oil, or shea butter.

Dosage/How to use:

Topical: Apply undiluted to the skin or mix with other carrier oils.

Internal: Take 1/4 - 1/2 teaspoon daily with food. 1/2 teaspoon of evening primrose oil provides 2500 mg, which gives 250 mg of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA).

Storage: Evening primrose oil is a sensitive oil and should be stored in the refrigerator. Note: Opened bottles should be consumed within 6 weeks. The oil should not be heated.

Note: Imbalances in the omega-6/omega-3 ratio may occur if therapeutic doses of only GLA are taken for many months without also taking EFA/DHA supplements – in that case, a high-quality fish oil or algae oil is also recommended.
