The Maunawai® PI®PRIME K8 countertop filter is a gravity water filter that operates according to five principles: filtration, information, optimization, harmonization, and biological availability. Maunawai has been a leader in electricity-free water filtration systems for many years and manufactures them in Germany.
Mountain Water
The Hawaiian word Maunawai means "mountain water," which is exactly what the MAUNAWAI® filter does: it transforms your tap water into mountain water.
This technology was developed 60 years ago in Japan, intended to turn tap water into premium drinking water. By applying the five principles—filtration, information, optimization, harmonization, and biological availability—the water becomes not only clean but also restructured.
It removes chlorine, several heavy metals, uranium, pesticides, nitrates, hormones, and pharmaceutical residues from the water. Additionally, the water regains its original cluster structure and can thus be absorbed optimally.
Multi-stage Filtration System
The ceramic pre-filter is a preparatory filter that handles any residues in the tap water. It filters out dust, rust, and other suspended substances or sediments. With a pore size of only 0.2 µm, the ceramic is so fine that bacteria cannot pass through it. This provides effective protection against all types of bacteria.
Premium PI® Filter Cartridge
The heart of the water filtration system is the multilayered Premium PI® filter cartridge containing granulated activated carbon. Just 5.5 grams of activated carbon have a surface area equivalent to a soccer field (6,400 m²). It is this extremely large surface area that allows activated carbon filters to remove contaminants and other substances very effectively. Maunawai uses 180 grams of activated carbon granulate in the cartridges. This ensures the best possible filtration. The chemical composition of the water does not change during this process. The minerals remain in the water and therefore do not alter the measured values for TDS units under any circumstances.
Shungite granulate. The fullerenes in the shungite granulate develop catalytic properties in the water, promoting the oxidation of active chemical compounds.
Zeolite. Thanks to its exceptional properties for selective ion exchange and adsorption, zeolite can bind contaminants such as heavy metals mercury, lead, and cadmium, radionuclides, histamine, and ammonium in its microporous structure.
Ceramic beads: At the core of the filter, over 20 different ceramic materials work in precise coordination and dosing. A porous but mechanically stable ceramic matrix is produced through a special, complex process. The most important ceramic beads are PI ceramics, which release trace minerals and activate the formation of the natural water structure with small clusters. Tourmaline ceramic acts as a catalyst and supports the process of restructuring the water.
EM ceramics. EM stands for "Effective Microorganisms." It is a mixed culture of over 80 naturally occurring "guiding microbes" that support life-promoting processes and optimize water quality.
Alkaline zirconia magnetite ceramics, along with other bioceramics used, are additional variants of natural replicas that particularly reduce cluster structure, polarize the water, and regulate the pH value.
Antimicrobial bioceramics, hydrogen ball, harmonize the calcium-magnesium ratio in the water and ultimately create a natural balance in the drinking water (hexagonal water).
Capacity
The filter tank on top holds up to 4 liters. The drinking water container below is made of mouth-blown glass and holds up to 8 liters.
How often should the filter be replaced?
Depending on water quality, it is recommended to replace the ceramic PIPRIME filter after one year. However, you should replace the filter if holes appear in the ceramic filter. If you filter water of poorer quality than average, the filter capacity can be significantly reduced by removing sediments.
The PIPRIME® filter cartridge should be replaced every 8-12 months or after 3000 liters of water have been filtered. If you use lime filter pads, they should be replaced every 4-8 weeks, depending on water quality.
