Nutrex

Nutrex

At the facility in Kailua-Kona, Nutrex produces the finest and purest spirulina in all of Hawaii. They have been doing this since 1990 when the company was founded by Dr. Gerald Cysewski, who is an expert on microalgae and carotenoids. He started Nutrex with the aim of spreading the knowledge of spirulina”s health and well-being benefits, and to make premium quality microalgae available to people all over the world. To create this top-quality product, Nutrex is using fresh deep-sea water from the Kona coast in the process, freshwater filtered in lava rock and plenty of Hawaiian sunlight.

Nutrex

Nutrex Hawaii is located on the pristine and untouched coast of Kona, on the Big Island of Hawaii. Their microalgae yard was built in a place that was once a barren lava flow. Today this is where they have freshwater ponds in which spirulina is cultivated. By taking advantage of the natural resources that surround them – abundant warm sunlight, pure deepsea water and freshwater – Nutrex is able to create a truly unique product.

The freshwater comes from aquifers (the water is naturally filtered through the lava rock) and they add about 5% of deep sea water (from 600 meters deep) to get unique trace elements in the final product.

The Nutrex Hawaii Ocean Chill Drying ™ system eliminates oxidation which causes damage to carotenoids, enzymes and other nutrients, often seen in standard drying methods. This system, which dries the spirulina in just 3-7 seconds, uses very cold, deep-sea water to moisturize the spirulina. In order to preserve phytonutrients, the Nutrex Hawaii Ocean Chill Drying ™ system uses less than one percent oxygen.

Nutrex” Spirulina is cultivated in a bio-safe zone, that is free of pesticides, herbicides and industrial pollutants. Each batch of spirulina goes through about 15 different quality tests before being approved for sale. Nutrex thoroughly tests the nutritional content, bacterial content, heavy metal level, and other contamination levels. The product”s heavy metals levels are well below what is permitted by the United States Pharmacopeia. In regard to BMAA, the products are tested periodically for BMAA and the results are consistently below the very low analytical detection limit of 0.5 micrograms / kg – meaning “undetectable”. Over the past year, Nutrex has analysed 10 unique rates which were all free from BMAA.
