En svamp för ett stressat nervsystem? Därför är Reishi så omtalad

A mushroom for a stressed nervous system? This is why Reishi is so talked about

You’ve probably heard about adaptogens by now. And about medicinal mushrooms suddenly appearing in coffee, capsules, and evening routines.

No, it’s not about magic mushrooms. But almost.

There are several different types with different properties. Today I want to talk about one of the most classic adaptogenic mushrooms: Reishi. And why it might be interesting for you who feel your body has a hard time slowing down.

Do you recognize the stress in your body?

You know that feeling.

You are tired, but the body is not calm. Thoughts are racing. Your shoulders are a bit too high as you type on the keyboard. You eat breakfast standing up while clearing the pile of dishes. Email notifications on your phone don’t seem to want to pause. Your pulse rises.

You long for rest, but it’s like the system doesn’t really want to shut down. Neither during the day nor in the evening.

It’s not that you are too "sensitive."

It’s a nervous system that has been working overtime.

And this is where Reishi comes in.

What is an adaptogen?

An adaptogen is a plant or mushroom that helps the body handle stress a bit smarter.

When we are stressed, the body goes into alert mode. The pulse increases and hormones like cortisol are released. We become sharp. It’s a fantastic function when we actually need it.

The problem is that many of us live in a constant half-alert state. The body never really gets the signal that the danger is over.

Adaptogens are traditionally used to help the body switch back. Not by shutting down the system. Not by giving a boost.

But by supporting the body's own ability to regulate itself.

Reishi is one of the most used medicinal mushrooms in the world. Research has looked at its effects on immune function and stress-related processes. It contains beta-glucans and triterpenes, bioactive compounds believed to contribute to its properties.

What makes Reishi different?

All adaptogens work with the stress response, but they do so in different ways.

Some are more stimulating. Reishi is not.

It is traditionally used to promote recovery and immune function. In Chinese medicine, the Reishi mushroom has been used for over 2000 years to strengthen both body and mind.

Reishi is especially valued during periods of prolonged stress. When sleep becomes lighter and recovery takes longer. When the body feels more reactive than usual.

Who can benefit from Reishi during stress?

Reishi may be relevant for you if you:

  • Having trouble winding down in the evening
  • Feeling tired but still wired
  • Living with long-term stress
  • Notice that recovery is not as obvious as before
  • Want to work preventively with the immune system

It can also be interesting during periods of hormonal changes, for example during perimenopause or menopause, when sensitivity to stress often seems to increase and sleep is affected.

How do you use Reishi?

Reishi works best when taken regularly over time. Think weeks rather than days.

Because it is a tough, woody mushroom, it needs to be extracted for the body to absorb the active compounds. That’s why extracts in capsule or powder form are usually used.

So how does it actually show?

What you can expect is not a dramatic effect overnight. Rather, a gradual change in how the body handles stress.

You might notice that:

  • You don’t get wound up as quickly
  • Evenings feel a bit calmer
  • You fall asleep without your thoughts racing as long
  • Energy feels more balanced throughout the day
  • Colds don’t linger as stubbornly

A feeling that the body simply works better together.

Reishi or magnesium?

Magnesium works more directly with muscle relaxation and nervous system signaling. It can provide a more immediate feeling of physical relaxation and is often helpful for falling asleep or tense muscles.

Reishi works more broadly with the body’s stress response and immune function.

There is limited research on the combination itself, but since they work through different mechanisms, many use them together. Magnesium for more immediate relaxation. Reishi as a long-term support for stress regulation.

They serve different functions.

Not all Reishi is the same

Quality is our foundation. We don’t bring in products just because they are trendy.

Reishi is a tough mushroom where the active compounds are bound in the cell wall. To get an effective supplement, extraction is required, often with hot water or double extraction.

A simple ground mushroom powder does not provide the same concentration of beta-glucans and triterpenes as a standardized extract.

The origin, growing conditions, and purity of the raw material also matter.

For a product to be included in our range, and to stay, it must pass our thorough quality assurance.

This means, among other things:

It is free from unnecessary additives
It does not contain ingredients that the body doesn’t tolerate well
The raw materials are of high quality
The content is as pure and minimal as possible

After that, the product is tested by our team, who assess user-friendliness, quality, and how it actually feels to use in everyday life.

For us, it’s not just about what a product contains, but just as much about what it doesn’t contain.

When something becomes part of your daily life, it should feel safe.

If you want to try

If you feel your nervous system has been on overdrive for a while, Reishi can be a great complement to other basics like sleep, food, and supplements such as magnesium.
