The 4 most important supplements for your health on a budget

Knowing which supplements are the most important can be a jungle. If you also have a tight budget, it can feel even harder. Which supplements should you prioritize? And how can you combine nutrients to get good results for your overall health? Many people today have a lifestyle that involves stress and strain. Such a lifestyle means we use up more of the nutrients we get from food, making it even more important to know which supplements to prioritize. Supplements on a budget Here are four supplements you can get for a “röding,” meaning if you have a budget of 400 SEK per month for your supplements. Multivitamin The first supplement is MultiVitamin Methylated from Holistic. It is a high-dose multivitamin supplement that also contains choline, citrus bioflavonoids, Bioperine®, and specially selected sources of vitamins B2, B6, B12, and folate. Vitamins are important for the body and are involved in regulating metabolism, converting fats and carbohydrates into energy, and building the skeleton and other tissues. For example, vitamins A, C, and D contribute to maintaining the normal function of the immune system. Vitamins B6, niacin, C, and folic acid help reduce tiredness and fatigue, and B1, B6, B12, and folic acid support normal psychological function. Price The jar contains 90 capsules, enough for three months if you take one capsule per day. The cost will be 100 SEK per month. Multimineral Vitamins alone are not enough; we also need essential minerals. Holistic Multimineral contains the most important minerals the body needs to function optimally, thanks to easily absorbed and bioavailable mineral compounds and more than 70 trace elements. Minerals are important for the skeleton, teeth, blood, and muscle reflexes. They also regulate the body's water content and pH balance. Our bodies cannot produce minerals themselves. Most minerals are absorbed in ionic form in the intestines. Price The jar contains 90 capsules, enough for three months if you take one capsule per day. The cost will be 56 SEK per month. Probiotics The microflora in the stomach and intestines can easily become unbalanced, which can negatively affect, among other things, our digestion and immune system. By replenishing with good bacteria, we help the gut flora restore its balance. Helhetshälsa Probioplex is a supplement with live lactic acid bacteria providing five different strains with 2 billion live bacteria in each capsule. The microencapsulation ensures good shelf life and bacterial survival. A big advantage of this one is that it can be stored at room temperature and is therefore easy to take with you. Many other probiotic products need to be kept cool. Price The jar contains 90 capsules and therefore lasts three months if you take one capsule per day. That means a cost of 60 SEK per month. Omega-3 Omega-3 fatty acids protect against cardiovascular diseases, improve hormone and enzyme functions, and play an important role in maintaining healthy brain and nerve function as well as vision. Teeth, skin, reproductive organs, and joints also need omega-3. Opti3 is a 100% natural, plant-based, and concentrated source of the long-chain omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA, designed to give you the benefits of natural Omega-3 directly from algae. Opti3 is safe for children, pregnant, and breastfeeding women and guaranteed free from heavy metals or plastic residues from the ocean. Price The jar contains 60 plant-based capsules with microalgae oil and lasts for two months if you take 1 capsule a day. That means a cost of 130 SEK per month. Total: 346 SEK per month for 4 basic supplements These four supplements are a good base for all of us and cost 346 SEK per month. Supplement as needed But beyond these, it can be a good idea to supplement with supplements tailored to your needs. More energy If you feel tired and sluggish, it may be because the energy production in the cells, the mitochondria, is not working optimally. But you might also need more energy than usual if, for example, you train hard. You can try Thorne's ResveraCel, an advanced supplement focused on energy production. Nicotinamide riboside helps reduce fatigue and exhaustion, as well as supports cellular metabolism and energy production in our cells. It also includes trans-resveratrol, quercetin, and betaine, all of which stimulate the body's production of the molecule NAD+, which in turn stimulates the mitochondria's energy production. One jar contains 60 capsules and lasts for two months. That amounts to 295 SEK per month. Stronger immune system Super mushroom Chaga, or Birch Polypore, is an adaptogenic mushroom often called the "King of Mushrooms" and is fantastic for the immune system. One of the body's most important antioxidants is an enzyme called SOD, superoxide dismutase. Chaga contains the highest amount of SOD of all known foods, which explains its high antioxidant value. Chaga also naturally contains vitamins, minerals, trace elements, polysaccharides, betulinic acid, melanin, phytonutrients, ergosterol, beta-glucans, saponins, sterols, triterpenes, and amino acid complexes. Simmer 1 tsp of chaga powder in half a liter of water. You can dry and reuse the powder as long as it releases color. You can flavor it yourself with, for example, peppermint, cinnamon, coconut sugar, stevia drops, or honey. One bag contains 125 g and lasts for about two months. That amounts to 75 SEK per month. Vitamins and minerals for the immune system Vitamin C, vitamin D, and zinc are also extremely important for the immune system. ImmunOptimal from Helhetshälsa contains all of these and also includes 180 mg of ginger, which contributes to the normal function of the airways in the nose, mouth, and throat. One jar contains 60 capsules and lasts for 30 days. That amounts to 209 SEK per month. Sharper brain E3 Live BrainON is a super concentrated organic extract of phycocyanin and phenylethylamine (PEA), both of which are said to have a good effect on cognitive functions such as concentration and memory. Take 2 capsules per day and preferably before doing something that requires energy and focus. Remember to drink plenty of clean water throughout the day. The jar contains 120 capsules and lasts for 60 days. That amounts to 315 SEK per month. Maximize well-being How you combine supplements is personal and can vary over time. Also keep in mind that sleep, rest, and recovery are important elements that help both health, nutrient absorption, and well-being. Spending some time in the sun every day, around midday, is also good for the immune system and health.

Harmful Chemicals in Cleaning Products - 10 Natural Alternatives

Did you know that a lot of nasty chemicals accumulate in ordinary dust? Yes, even if you try to avoid plastics and buy consciously, most homes have computers, TVs, phones, and cables that can release flame retardants and so on. When dust has been examined closely, besides hair, skin flakes, and mites, flame retardants, phthalates, and bisphenol A have been found. Cozy, right? The best way to protect ourselves from these chemicals is to clean and keep the home tidy. Vacuum (with a HEPA filter as close to 100% as you can find), mop, and air out! If you want to keep your home free from nasties, you can choose to switch to eco-friendly cleaning instead of buying conventional cleaning products. Eco-friendly cleaning is both cheaper and more enjoyable. But above all, you avoid a lot of harmful chemicals hidden in cleaning products. Choosing eco-friendly cleaning is not only good for your health, it’s also a great act for the environment! 10 Cleaning Products You Should Avoid If you have regular cleaning products at home, be sure to read the information on the packaging carefully, look for hazard symbols, and follow the instructions! Always use gloves and other protective equipment recommended when working with the product, such as safety goggles or natural rubber cleaning gloves. Always screw the cap tightly on the bottle when finished and store the products in their original packaging—preferably locked in a cabinet out of reach of children! Call 112 and ask for Poison Information if someone has ingested or come into contact with something that may be corrosive. 1. Common Laundry Detergents Laundry detergents often come in powder or liquid form. These can irritate the skin, eyes, and respiratory tract. Be extra careful if the products are concentrated. Avoid especially perfumed detergents. Synthetic fragrances can contain several hundred chemicals derived from the petroleum industry and also phthalates that can impair reproductive ability. Phthalates are mainly used as plasticizers in plastic and rubber but also as solvents in perfumes and pesticides. Choose saponin-based detergents instead of surfactant-based ones. Saponin is found, for example, in soap nuts. You can also switch to an organic detergent that is as effective as conventional ones. 2. Fabric Softener Fabric softener is the last chemical clothes are exposed to before the wash is finished, and it often remains in the textiles. Since textiles are in contact with our skin and can be absorbed, these chemicals then enter our bloodstream. All products containing water, such as fabric softeners, need to contain preservatives to prevent mold growth and spoilage. Many of these preservatives are toxic to aquatic organisms and can disrupt the biological treatment of our wastewater. Instead, use a little vinegar as fabric softener and add a few drops of essential oil if you want fragrance. 3. Cleaning Products This category includes all-purpose cleaners and liquid cleaning products that contain synthetic surfactants, perfumes, and unnecessary dyes. These are especially irritating to our lungs because there is a high risk of inhaling the tiny droplets when spraying the product. They can also irritate skin and eyes. They often contain surfactants that dissolve grease and dirt by reducing water’s surface tension, as well as petroleum products that are both hard to break down and toxic to all life in our waters. The synthetic surfactants can also smell a bit musty. That’s why perfume is often added to cleaning products. Instead, choose soap flakes or eco-labeled dish soap or cleaning products. 4. Window Cleaner Window cleaner, like all-purpose cleaners, contains synthetic surfactants, perfumes, and unnecessary dyes. These become easy to inhale when spraying the product, which irritates lungs, eyes, and skin. Instead, you can mix your own window cleaner with this recipe consisting of vinegar, water, and dish soap. 5. Dishwasher Detergent Dishwasher detergents are especially risky because they are highly concentrated. Additionally, many are packaged in a microfilm that releases microplastics into our oceans when it melts. Microplastics are eaten by our fish, and then we eat the fish. Instead, choose eco-labeled dishwasher detergent without plastic film. 6. Descaling Agents Descaling agents are also highly concentrated and therefore extra risky. Instead, choose vinegar, which is a natural water softener. 7. Oven Cleaner Potassium and sodium hydroxide are examples of alkalis that may be included in oven cleaners. They are also called caustic soda and are very corrosive. Since oven cleaners are highly concentrated, extra caution is required. Instead, choose soap flakes and follow the instructions on Morotsliv. 8. Bleach Bleach contains sodium hypochlorite, an alkali that is highly corrosive and has a very high pH. It is strongly irritating and can cause burns if it comes into contact with skin or eyes. Instead, choose sodium percarbonate, which is naturally bleaching thanks to hydrogen peroxide and oxygen. 9. Drain Cleaner Drain cleaners are extremely corrosive and can quickly cause serious and permanent burns in the mouth, esophagus, eyes, and on the skin. Every year, children and adults are hospitalized due to injuries caused by drain cleaners containing sodium or potassium hydroxide, also called caustic soda or lye. At Morotsliv, you can find recipes for a milder but effective version of drain cleaner using vinegar and baking soda or sodium carbonate. 10. Fragrance Spray Fragrance spray is something you breathe in. And synthetic perfumes contain many substances that disrupt our reproductive ability, the environment, and more. Instead, choose natural scents and fragrance sprays. Depending on your hair quality and color, some clever tricks may be needed to get a good result. In this post, we answer the most common questions about dyeing hair naturally. Contents: Why should I dye with organic hair color? Dye as often as you want Why is white or gray hair harder to dye with organic hair color? How do I dye gray hair with organic hair colors? Single coloring Two-step coloring with blonde herbal hair color* Step 1: Blonde herbal hair color* Step 2: Blonde to light brown herbal hair color Two-step coloring with red herbal hair color* Step 1: Red herbal hair color* Step 2: Brown to dark herbal hair color What should I consider when choosing hair color? How long does the color last? Things to consider when dyeing with organic hair dyes Preparations Dyeing After dyeing Common questions about herbal hair dyes Why should I dye with organic hair color? As age takes its toll, it’s not just gray hairs that appear. Hair follicles shrink, hair grows more slowly, and hair growth decreases (hair loss). Some also experience thinner hair strands and poorer hair quality. That’s why it’s especially important not to dye hair with chemicals that damage hair and irritate the scalp. Natural and organic hair colors: is made of herbs and is plant-based. contains no chemicals that damage or irritate hair and scalp. coats the hair strands like a protective layer. strengthens the hair and adds shine. is biodegradable and does not harm our environment. Dye as often as you want Because organic hair colors do not alter the hair's natural pigmentation, they do not damage the hair. You can dye your hair as often as you want. The hair just becomes stronger and shinier. Think of each dyeing as a hair treatment! You have to dare to take the step and try. Always do a test strand first (for example, at the nape). Why is white or gray hair harder to dye with organic hair color? The plant pigments in organic hair colors coat the hair strands by binding to the hair's natural pigment. Since gray hair has little pigment and white hair has none at all, plant pigments adhere poorly or not at all. How do I dye gray hair with organic hair colors? In general, plant pigments adhere poorly to pigment-poor hair, except for red henna which is an exception. The red pigment is small and can also adhere well to white hair. This gives us the advantage of being able to add pigment to pigment-poor hair. In this way, it is possible to apply another color on top of the red pigments if you want a color other than red. Single coloring There are a few lucky souls with gray (not white) hair who get a great result without coloring their hair in two steps. Usually, these are people with fine hair strands and not too smooth hair who succeed with just one coloring. This can be anyone from blondes to brunettes. Feel free to try if you think you belong to this minority. Darker hair with white is almost impossible to get a good result with just one coloring. Then two-step coloring is a must. Two-step coloring with blonde herbal hair color Two-step coloring with blonde herbal hair color is for you who: have light hair and want to color to a blonde or light brown shade Step 1: Blonde herbal hair color Since you want a light final result, 100% red henna is far too red and dark for you to use as an intermediate step. The intense red color will shine through your light hair color, which is not always desirable. You should therefore first add red plant pigments with a blonde shade. Yep! Blonde colors contain more or less red (double-check the ingredient list for Lawsonia Inermis). It does not give an intense color result but the gray hairs get a little extra pigment, just enough for the color in step 2 to take hold. Step 2: Blonde to light brown herbal hair color You can color with your second and final herbal hair color immediately after rinsing out the color in step 1 or the next day. The longer you leave the color on, the better the coverage of the color from step 1. Two-step coloring with red herbal hair color Two-step coloring with red hair color or 100% red henna is for you who: want to color to a brown or dark shade. Step 1: Red herbal hair color Choose a hair color with a lot or 100% henna (Lawsonia Inermis). This gives the hair (including white strands) an intense red shade. The more gray or white hair you have, the more red is needed in this step. The hair then gets a lot of extra pigment that sticks well, which is necessary for step 2. Brown and dark shades usually contain a lot of blue. Blue color pigments are large (compared to, for example, red pigments) and therefore need more pigmented hair to adhere well. The advantage of red henna is that it is permanent. Even though the color fades somewhat over time, the pigmentation is enough that next time you only need to color the roots, which saves both time and money. Step 2: Brown to dark herbal hair color The last step with your dark herbal hair dye is done the same way as step 1 but with a brown herbal hair dye. Dye immediately after the red color or the next day. What should I consider when choosing hair color? There are five important things to keep in mind when choosing a color: It is not possible to get a lighter hair color than your own since there are no bleaching agents in the organic hair dyes. However, it is possible to create the illusion of lighter hair. For example, dark brown hair can get lighter highlights from a brown-red color mix. It is possible to get the same or darker color than your own natural hair color. If you choose a hair color that is much darker than your own, a 2-step dyeing process is required whether you have gray hair or not. If you were to dye directly with a dark color, you will very likely get greenish-blue discolorations in your hair. This also applies to those with naturally cool hair colors without red in them, such as ash blonde. Red henna gives a permanent color result. Herbal hair dyes with red tend to last longer. Plant dyes without red henna wash out faster. The red henna is called Lawsonia Inermis in the ingredient list. The powder dyes are a fresh product that gives more intense results compared to the ready-mixed cream dyes in tubes. How long does the color last? Warm and red herbal hair dyes last longer, as red adheres more easily to the hair strands. Red henna gives a permanent result. Hair dyes with some red henna range from semi-permanent to non-permanent. It simply depends on how red the color is. When an herbal hair dye is not permanent, the color lasts as long as a toner. Then the color result lasts about 4 weeks before washing out completely. Things to consider when dyeing with organic hair dyes Organic hair dyes or herbal hair dyes differ from chemical-based hair dyes. For beginners, there are some things that can be good to know. Preparations Clean hair – The hair does not need to be freshly washed. The important thing is that it is free from styling products, dirt, oil, etc. Otherwise, the herbal hair dye may have difficulty adhering to the hair. Herbal hair dyes also adhere poorly to chemically treated hair. Ideally, wait 2 months before dyeing with herbal hair dye if you have recently dyed or chemically treated your hair. Dry/damp hair – It works just as well to dye dry hair as damp (freshly washed) hair. Metals – Herbal hair dye can react with metals. Therefore, do not mix your herbal hair dye in a bowl or with a fork made of metal. Also, do not use metal hair clips when dyeing your hair. Dry skin – If you have dry skin, it’s a good idea to moisturize your face with an oil or richer cream. If the skin still gets stained, it can easily be removed with oil or soap and water. Test first – Always do a strand test! Even though herbal hair dyes are free from allergenic chemicals, you can still react to natural plants. A strand test also works as a check where you can see the result and know how long processing time you need. Dyeing Green plant dye – Regardless of which shade you choose, the color paste will be green, as it consists of finely ground plants. Dye systematically – dye in sections, part by part. White/gray hair – requires extra herbal hair dye paste. The white or gray strands should be completely covered with the color mixture (no gray strands should show). Color brush – forget back brushes and other substitutes. Invest in an herbal hair dye brush, so you can easily dye section by section. It also makes it easy to apply an even and perfect amount of color mixture that covers the strands. The brush can make a big difference and save a lot of time. It will last for many years. Processing time – Longer processing time makes your color last longer and can also give a more intense/darker result (compared to shorter processing time). Leave the color on for 2 hours or longer for maximum color result. After dyeing Shampoo – do not shampoo for 24 hours so the color has a chance to set properly. This will make the color result intense and long-lasting. This is especially important if you are dyeing pigment-poor hair. Organic conditioner without soap agents is fine. Oxidation – the color result can oxidize and darken. Therefore, wait 24 hours before deciding to dye your hair darker. Leftover dye – the mixed paste cannot be saved, but you can save the powder itself. Clip the bag with a bread clip, store it cool and dark, and it will last for several months. Bleaching hair – bleaching hair after an herbal hair dye is a bad idea. Usually, the hair gets discolorations (especially if the hairdresser is not familiar with plant-based dyes). That’s why it’s important to always do a strand test to avoid surprises. Common questions about herbal hair dyes Here we have gathered common questions and answers about herbal hair dyes. Missing a question? Feel free to comment on this post and we will answer your question. Why am I not getting any color result? There can be many reasons such as: your hair was not clean from dirt, oils, styling products, various leave-in products, chemical residues. you let the hair dye process for too short a time. The color mix was too diluted and runny (too much water). The color mix was too dry (too little water), crumbly, and hard to apply. You applied too little hair color to your hair. You chose a color that is lighter than or too close to your own hair color. You have too much pigment-poor hair (gray, white hair, or cool hair color that has no red in it). You need to dye your hair in two steps or add some red to your color mix. What do I do if it turned out too dark? You can shampoo your hair if the color result is too dark or not at all what you expected. This way, you get a weaker or more muted color result. Wash out the color with shampoo once or several times immediately after dyeing. The longer you wait to shampoo, the harder it is to wash out the color. Why didn’t the color result look like the picture on the package? Because natural herbal hair color sits on top of your own hair, the result is individual and completely unique. If your natural hair has variations (which most do), there will be color variations in the dyed hair as well. Also, some hair types absorb red pigments more easily and blue pigments less easily. The same hair color can therefore give different results on different hair. Always do a strand test to avoid unwanted results. If the result wasn’t quite what you wanted, you can dye again with a different color or mix your powder color with another shade. Why does my hair get redder with each dyeing? Most herbal hair colors contain more or less red. Some of the red pigments probably remain and are enhanced with the next dyeing. Instead, dye with a less red color (if you have a blonde shade, choose a lighter blonde). Can I mix the herbal hair colors? The big advantage of herbal hair color in powder form is that you can mix them for a custom color. Mix the powder colors first before adding water. Why don’t I get any color result in the first step of a 2-step dyeing?? Try increasing or maximizing the processing time. If that doesn’t help, you simply need more red color pigments in your first dyeing in step 1. Try adding a tablespoon of red henna during the first dyeing with a blonde shade. If you dyed step 1 with a reddish-brown hair color, you should instead dye with 100% pure henna. Are you wondering about anything else regarding dyeing your hair with herbal hair color, or do you have great tips to share with the rest of us? Please feel free to leave a comment!

8 fun things to do during the Christmas break with the kids

Christmas is a wonderful time for most children, and many especially enjoy the holiday break that stretches from the days before Christmas Eve all the way into January of the next year. But what do you do if the long break starts to feel a bit boring? We have the tips! 1. Have a home spa day Children also need to be pampered, and most love this cozy activity! Offer a massage of the back, head, hands, legs, or wherever feels good and comfortable for the child. Use a skin-friendly oil for better glide. Remember to massage gently at first as it may feel unfamiliar. Pour a foot bath and add some oil to soften the feet, or fill a bathtub with warm water and bath foam and let the child relax thoroughly. Feel free to serve something tasty and refreshing to drink, like freshly pressed organic juice or water. 2. Go on an adventure Pack a delicious organic picnic and fill a thermos with warm homemade chocolate and go exploring in the forest among elves and trolls. Dress warmly, bring something to sit on, and create wonderful childhood memories! 3. Let the children go on a treasure hunt! Draw a simple treasure map of the yard or forest. Make small notes with riddles, math problems, or fun questions. Hide the notes and mark on the map where each note is located. When the children have found all the notes and solved the problems, they get a final clue from you describing where the treasure is! The treasure can be an item, something to eat, or an experience like a swimming ticket, bowling ticket, or something else fun that you know your child enjoys doing. 4. Invite to a costume party Draw and craft fun invitations for friends, neighborhood kids, or cousins and invite them to a costume party that includes face painting. Let the children come dressed however they want and do simple face paintings on their cheeks or forehead. Blow up a bunch of balloons and play freeze dance as long as the children want and can! 5. Build a fort & read a book Building a fort is fun for both small and big kids and everyone can do it. Use a table or other furniture and hang a blanket over it. Make it cozy with something soft to lie on, some pillows, and a lamp. In no time, you have the coziest little hideout where you can lie and cuddle up with a book together with a parent or a friend. Reading aloud to your child is very important and great for the child’s language development. 6. Bake something delicious together Put on your aprons, bring out bowls and spoons, and find that favorite recipe you never usually have time for. During the Christmas break, you’ll find the time for that cozy baking session the children will remember forever. Out of ideas? No worries, here we offer a full 126 recipes for many different occasions! 7. Play cinema On a day when it’s raining or too cold outside, movie time can be perfect! Let the children draw tickets that you hand out to all moviegoers. Fill the sofa with extra pillows, blankets, and other cozy things. Find an old classic on the TV that you think suits the whole family and prepare some snacks like these wonderfully tasty cheese-flavored popcorn, a super delicious caramel pie, Christmas candy, or a fruit platter with organic yummy fruits. Dim the lights in the room and enjoy the movie and company! 8. Organize a game night with the whole family! Invite grandma, aunt, cousins, and the rest of the family for a fun game night. Let the children choose the games they want to play and roll the dice to decide which game to start with. The child who rolls the highest number wins, and you start with that game. Play games as long as you can, and remember: Being a good loser is great. Being a good winner is even better 😉

Dry or surface-dry skin? Differences and treatment

Is dry skin the same as dehydrated skin? The answer is no. They are two completely different conditions and are treated differently. Learn all about the differences in this post. What is the difference between dry and dehydrated skin? Dry skin is a skin type where the skin lacks sebum (oil), while dehydrated skin is a (temporary) skin condition where the skin suffers from a lack of water and moisture. You can have both dry and dehydrated skin. If dehydration is not treated, you may eventually develop dry skin as a symptom. Read more about dry skin and dehydrated skin. Different signs of dry and dehydrated skin Dryness and dehydration show in different ways, although there are a few similarities: Dehydrated skin can cause fine lines, superficial wrinkles, dull and lifeless skin, uneven skin tone, itching, dark circles, tired sunken eyes, dry lipsDry skin can cause dry and white flakes, flaky skin, rough skin | x | irritated and red skin, tendency to skin problems like eczema, itching, psoriasis, dermatitis, tight feeling especially after showering, bathing or swimming, both small superficial and larger deeper skin cracks that can bleed, and dull skin. Find out if your skin is dehydrated If you don’t see clear signs of any of the different skin conditions, you can do a simple pinch test. Here’s how: Pinch the skin together for a few seconds Release If the skin quickly returns and smooths out immediately, your skin is probably not dehydrated. If the skin slowly or takes a while to return to its original, smooth form, then your skin is likely dehydrated. Which ingredients help with dry skin versus dehydrated skin? Dryness and dehydration are treated differently. If you have used products that didn’t help, it may be because you treated your skin with the wrong kind of products. Here is a list of ingredients you need depending on whether your skin is dry or dehydrated. For dehydrated skin, suitable ingredients are: Aloe vera, Glycerin, Honey, Hyaluronic acid, Lactic acid, Seaweed, algae, Water, hydrolates. For dry skin, suitable ingredients are: Hyaluronic acid, Lactic acid, Rich oils like nut oils, avocado oil, Shea butter, Mango butter, Lanolin, Waxes like beeswax. What foods help with dry versus dehydrated skin When skincare products alone are not enough, you need to eat and drink right to bring your skin into balance. Here is a list of foods and drinks you need more of depending on whether you have dehydrated or dry skin. For dehydrated skin, suitable foods are: Water, fresh fruits and vegetables, water-rich foods like watermelon, celery, and cucumber. For dry skin, suitable foods are: Omega-3 rich foods like avocado, seeds, nuts, fish and shellfish, as well as healthy fatty acids (e.g., olive oil). -> Read more about how to treat dry skin here and dehydrated skin here.

Varför C-vitamin är livsviktigt för människor

Why vitamin C is vital for humans

The amazing vitamin C is one of the most common vitamins we take as a supplement to strengthen the immune system, especially now in winter. We can also choose to eat more foods that are especially rich in vitamin C. But in which foods do we find a lot of vitamin C, and what does it actually do for the body? Let's take a closer look now! Vitamin C in the body Humans are one of the few species, along with apes, lemurs, guinea pigs, and a species of bat, that cannot synthesize ascorbic acid themselves. Most animals produce vitamin C daily from glucose in the kidneys or liver. Under physical, mental, or chemical stress, animals can triple their production. This means it is very important that we get vitamin C in our diet every day, especially when we are stressed or sick. The body normally contains a reserve of about 1,500 mg (considering human body weight). The basal consumption is about 70 mg/kg body weight per day. For a 70-kilogram person, the requirement would be around 5 g per day and under extra stress up to 15 g per day. Most types of vitamin C supplements are best taken in lower doses spaced a few hours apart; otherwise, we just urinate out the excess. When you consume 1500 mg or less of vitamin C, it usually is not excreted in the urine, but with medication intake, stress, cold, and heat, urinary excretion can increase regardless of the amount in the blood. Properties of vitamin C strengthens our immune system so it can function properly needed for the body's production of connective tissue and collagen needed for good health of teeth, bones, and palate supports the body's own wound healing function facilitates iron absorption is an antioxidant that counteracts free radicals has anti-inflammatory effects needed for our nervous system to function normally it also gives a more even skin tone protects cells against oxidative stress At Morotsliv, you can read more about the properties and chemistry of vitamin C. Vitamin C deficiency If you have a vitamin C deficiency, you may experience the following symptoms: Fatigue, irritability, lack of energy Hair loss Dry, sagging skin Gum inflammation Repeated colds Poor wound healing Severe vitamin C deficiency causes scurvy Vitamin C in food Vitamin C is water-soluble and begins to lose its potency as soon as it is exposed to air, heat, and light. The richest sources of vitamin C are: Acerola Rose hips Blackcurrants Parsley Horseradish Green bell pepper Broccoli Kiwi Papaya Orange juice Cantaloupe Chives Grapefruit juice Tomato paste All boiling, frying, and heating destroy much of the vitamin C. It is actually the vitamin most easily destroyed by light, heat, and food preparation. This makes fresh fruit and berries the best sources of vitamin C in a varied diet. But for example, vitamin C in oranges pressed into orange juice gradually disappears in the pitcher in the fridge. After a few hours, not much remains unless you cover the pitcher. Much of the vitamin C in fruit is found just under the peel. Simple tip to get your daily requirement Eat a third of a green bell pepper every day to ensure your body gets the vitamin C it needs. Vitamin C supplements Vitamin C and bioflavonoids (vitamin P) always occur together in nature, so it is good to take them together. They complement each other, and bioflavonoids increase the body's absorption of vitamin C. The common ascorbic acid form of vitamin C has a low pH, meaning it is acidic, and can irritate the stomach in some people. Therefore, there are also neutral forms and ascorbate forms. These have a neutral pH value. A popular form is Ester-C, as well as mineral ascorbates obtained by mixing ascorbic acid with sodium, calcium, magnesium, and/or potassium. They are not as comprehensive and effective forms but are gentler on the stomach and have a good effect. Ester-C is pH-neutral, better absorbed, gentler on the stomach, and stays longer in the body. It is also possible to take vitamin C in the form of pills, powder as well as liposomal. Liposomal means that the vitamin C is encapsulated in small fat bubbles called phospholipids. Phospholipids consist of choline, phosphate, and glycerin and are a substance naturally found in the body. The cell wall also consists of phospholipids. These are then transported out to the body's cells; this is the liposomal transport. Here you can read more about the importance of vitamin C for the skin and how you can use vitamin C in your skincare routine.

6 hälsofördelar med blåbär för hjärta och minne

6 health benefits of blueberries for heart and memory

Blueberries are one of the Nordic region's most beloved superfoods. They have been used as far back in time as we know, both for their delicious taste and rich nutritional content. But also for their strong color, for example, in clothing. Did you know that about 250,000 tons of wild blueberries grow in Sweden alone every year, and that blueberry bushes cover almost 17% of the country's land area? Blueberries are also among the most resilient and oldest plants in our forests. After a forest fire, blueberries (and lingonberries) are always among the first plants to start the regrowth of life in the forest. The health benefits that blueberries can provide are many and varied. The fact that they also taste good, are easy to find, and have a low calorie content only makes it better. At Glimja, we like to use them in smoothies, chia porridge, desserts, baked goods & breakfast cereals; or why not a creative salad dressing. Research suggests that just half a deciliter of blueberries per day can help reduce disease risks. 6 scientific reasons why eating blueberries daily is good for you 1. Antioxidants for your cells Blueberries have an impressive nutritional profile and have one of the highest antioxidant levels of all fruits and vegetables. A serving of 150g contains about a quarter of your daily vitamin C and manganese needs, and more than a third of your vitamin K1 needs. Blueberries also contain small amounts of vitamin E, vitamin B6, and copper. Antioxidants protect your body from free radicals and counteract oxidative stress. The oxidative stress caused by free radicals also damages our DNA, contributing to the aging process and playing a role in the development of certain diseases. Because blueberries contain many antioxidants, they can help minimize these processes. 2. Fiber for gut bacteria Blueberries are a good source of soluble fiber that helps support a healthy gut flora. They can relieve and protect against intestinal inflammation, according to research from Lund University Faculty of Engineering, which found that the protective effect is even better if blueberries are eaten together with friendly gut bacteria. 3. Reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases Eating 150 g of blueberries every day reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases by up to 15 percent, according to a six-month study led by the University of East Anglia. This may be because blueberries contain many naturally occurring compounds called anthocyanins – the flavonoids responsible for the red and blue color in fruits. Just as the antioxidants in blueberries protect your cells and DNA, they also help prevent LDL (bad) cholesterol in the body from oxidizing. This is important because oxidized LDL cholesterol can lead to heart disease. During an eight-week study at Oklahoma State University, LDL oxidation decreased by 27 percent by consuming 50 g of blueberries every day. Eating blueberries has been linked in several studies to lower blood pressure, resulting in a protective effect for the heart and blood vessels. 4. The flavonoids that help memory Phytochemical-rich foods like blueberries can help reverse age-related declines in our memory, according to The Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry. The flavonoids in blueberries have been shown to activate signaling proteins via a specific pathway in the hippocampus – the part of the brain that controls learning and memory. When a group of volunteers in their 70s with early memory decline drank between 4-5 dl of blueberry juice every day for two months in a study by the American Chemical Society, they showed significant improvement in learning ability and memory tests compared to the control group. Blueberries can significantly improve concentration and memory according to a study from Reading University. Participants were asked to drink a smoothie with 200 g of blueberries in the morning. In the afternoon, the smoothie drinkers' brain capacity was 15 to 20 percent higher than the control group. The flavonoids in blueberries are believed to increase blood flow to the brain and interact with signaling pathways crucial for cell survival and growth. 5. Helps with blood sugar balance Although blueberries contain sugar – about 15 g per 150g – laboratory studies suggest that the anthocyanins in blueberries can help control blood sugar levels by improving insulin sensitivity. Blueberries have also been shown to block certain digestive enzymes after a carbohydrate-rich meal, helping to reduce blood sugar. 6. May help with recovery after exercise Although more research is needed, early studies suggest that blueberries can help you recover faster after a tough workout. A small study published in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition found that drinking a blueberry smoothie both before and after exercise speeds up the recovery period after training. Let's eat more blueberries How many blueberries do you eat every day? Maybe you have a great blueberry recipe? Feel free to share your inspiration with us others in a comment below so we can get more blueberries in our diet!

13 NYA hudvårdstrender du bör hålla koll på 2022

13 NEW skincare trends you should watch in 2022

Since the start of the pandemic, the focus on skincare has been huge. People wore less makeup and spent more time on skincare. This trend will continue to be strong this year. Let’s look at the hottest skincare trends of 2022. 1. Bakuchiol Many more products with bakuchiol will be launched. Bakuchiol will become as obvious a star ingredient as vitamin C. Having a good natural alternative to retinol that doesn’t irritate the skin will further strengthen the anti-stress skincare trend. Even, smooth, firm skin without disturbing the skin’s barrier is so 2022. The question is whether the Indian plant Babchi will be grown and harvested in time to meet demand. By the way, it’s good to keep track of the percentage of bakuchiol a product contains to get value for your money. At least if bakuchiol is the main ingredient in a product. Expect to see new eye creams, serums, face creams, and oils starring bakuchiol. 2. Effective and bioactive ingredients Active ingredients like retinol, niacinamide, and vitamin C have trended in recent years and will continue to be popular this year. What we will see more of, however, are other bioactive ingredients. Bakuchiol, which we have already mentioned, but also antioxidants like vitamin E and polyphenols. Ingredients like algae extracts and exotic cold-pressed oils will also become really popular. They are more complex in their composition and usually contain various antioxidants, vitamins, and essential fatty acids that together quickly provide noticeable effects on the skin. Suki Skincare and 100% Pure are examples of brands that are heavily investing in bioactive ingredients. 3. Liposomes When we crave active ingredients, we must not forget that we also want fast-acting and deep-penetrating skincare products. This is where liposomes come into play. Liposomes are very small bubbles made of the same material as our cell membranes. These tiny bubbles encapsulate potent ingredients and deliver them quickly to the deeper layers of the skin where they are released. They are used in skincare to provide faster action with better effect. Liposomes take skincare to the next level and are definitely something we will see more of this year. Here are some examples of facial products with liposomes:Suki Moisture-rich Brightening Mask Suki Radical Results Youth Serum Suki Concentrated Clarifying Toner Suki Resurfacing Enzyme Peel Suki Balancing Day Lotion 4. Smart multi-products There are many advantages to multi-products: We avoid buying a bunch of different products, which saves both money and space in the bathroom cabinet. A safe bet to buy since the products are always used, which reduces waste. They get used up before they go bad. A positive thing for our wallet and the environment. Multi-products are our best gym and travel companions. Besides oils, balms, and salves, other multi-products will trend. Those beyond the ordinary like Bruns balsam nr 3 which can be used as body lotion, cleansing milk for the face, and shaving cream. 5. Tools Being able to get results without products, cosmetic or surgical procedures has long been popular. Various tools that take our skincare routine to a whole new level have long existed and they are here to stay. More brands will release their own tools such as cleansing brushes and suction cups. 6. Zero waste and plastic-free Zero waste is getting hotter every year and this year is no exception. More brands are launching plastic-reduced, plastic-free, and sometimes completely packaging-free alternatives. We will also see more refill systems. A sustainable trend in the right direction! 7. Upcycling Upcycling means taking waste or by-products and transforming them into a completely new product with higher value. The product is therefore recycled upward in value, instead of being downgraded at each recycling step. Upcycling is hotter than ever and the concept will get much more attention in the new year. 8. Concentrated products Sustainability thinking—quality over quantity—will take more space both among manufacturers and consumers. We want a shampoo that lasts 2-3 times longer like shampoo bars, a small, economical drop of toothpaste on the toothbrush. The advantages of concentrated products here are: pure ingredients, minimal or no unnecessary fillers buy less often, reduce shipping/transport better effect, concentrated, undiluted 9. Double masking Double masking is the new trend. During the pandemic, the use of face masks has drastically increased. Instead of going to the salon occasionally, we now aim for frequent mini-facial treatments at home. Double masking means using two or more masks one after the other – just like in a salon treatment. You combine different face masks targeting specific skin issues. For example, you start with an exfoliating mask, then a deep-cleansing one, and finish with a moisturizing mask. Double masking thus provides broader and better results compared to a single mask trying to do everything. NOTE! Combining face masks that do the same thing serves no purpose and can actually over-treat the skin. 10. Anti-blue light The pandemic has made us spend even more time in front of the computer screen. That’s why skincare products that protect against blue light continue to be something we crave. i+m face creams are examples of products that protect the skin against blue light. 11. Good bacteria During the year, we will see more beauty products and even makeup with good bacteria. It involves fermented ingredients, probiotics, and prebiotics in skincare. Good bacteria act as active protection against bad bacteria, soothe inflammations, and counteract skin aging. The good bacteria are an important part of skin health. Brands like 100% Pure and Dr Sannas offer some products with beneficial bacteria. 12. Balancing products Regardless of skin type and age, the golden balance is the ultimate goal. We have now shifted the focus from solving specific skin problems to the overall health of the skin. Skin in balance is fundamentally stronger, self-repairing, and healthier. Strengthening the skin's overall balance is the shortcut to solving all types of skin problems for healthier and more beautiful skin. There are different balances to achieve: balanced sebum production pH balance moisture balance bacteria/microflora balance A single product cannot provide total balance to the skin; all steps in the skincare routine should together support and supply what the skin needs to achieve balance. Sometimes the diet also needs to be adjusted to support the skin from within. 13. Strengthen the skin barrier The desire to strengthen the skin barrier is yet another holistic approach for more resilient skin against external and internal stress factors. As a counterpoint to trendy bioactive products, strengthening anti-stress products will take an increasingly larger role this year. Sometimes the use of cleansers and acids can be excessive, which weakens the skin barrier. Then you need to work on rebuilding the skin barrier. Skin with a damaged or weak skin barrier tends to: be dry and flaky itch, get eczema and similar conditions develop uneven skin tone become sensitive, easily red and inflamed more prone to various skin infections Strengthening the skin barrier is actually quite simple. However, it requires changing your routines more than just changing products: reduce the number of products in the skincare routine so the skin is not overtreated let the skin rest from acids, overly stimulating and active products stop burdening the skin with chemicals and substances it cannot utilize, absorb, or that do not benefit the skin focus on anti-stress: get enough sleep and drink enough, relax, and eat foods that strengthen the body and its defenses When it comes to products, choose mild and pure ones that can hydrate and soothe irritated skin. The products should provide the skin with plenty of moisture and be able to keep the skin hydrated for a long time. Use products with ingredients such as vegetable oils, aloe vera, squalane, ceramides, hyaluronic acid, glycerin, sorbitol, niacinamide (active but mild), and antioxidants that protect the skin from oxidative stress.

Giftfritt hemmagjort slime med naturliga ingredienser

Non-toxic homemade slime with natural ingredients

Slime, or goo, is a fun and simple craft that has become a big trend among kids who enjoy experimenting. Many children make their own slime at home, and it’s both easy and fun! However, most recipes contain one or more questionable and unnatural ingredients. How about lens solution, glue, detergent, shampoo, or shaving foam? Glue can contain allergenic preservatives or other substances that are not allowed in toys. Some recipes also include borax or boric acid, which are directly unsuitable for children to come into contact with. Borax can, among other things, affect human fertility. Since playing with slime involves a lot of skin contact for the child, we recommend using a non-toxic slime recipe with completely natural ingredients. That way, you can play around as much as you want without worrying about questionable ingredients, and it’s no problem if the child accidentally gets a bit of slime in their mouth! Here we offer two simple and completely natural DIY slime recipes! 1. Magic Slime Ingredients: 2 dl potato starch 1.5 dl cold water 1-2 tsp Pink Pitaya (we used 2 tsp in the pictures) Instructions: Mix Pink Pitaya and potato starch in a bowl. Stir in the water. It may seem like the mixture is too thick, but knead it with your hands for a while. Add more water if you want a looser mixture or more potato starch if it feels too thick. The slime behaves differently depending on the consistency, so it can be fun to experiment. The slime gets a wonderfully lovely bright pink color and a magical texture! It’s hard when you take a lump in your hand, but when you hold the lump, the slime melts. A cozy and fun experience for both young and old! Tip! Keep in mind that playing with slime can get messy and a bit sticky, so it’s a good idea to have a mat on the table. Also, wear an apron or old clothes and wash your hands thoroughly afterward so all the color from the Pink Pitaya disappears. Pink Pitaya is a brightly colored powder that can stain light textiles. 2. Sticky Slime Ingredients: 3 dl water 1.5 tbsp powdered psyllium husk (there are different types, make sure to use a finely ground one; we used Fiberhusk) 1-2 tsp Pink Pitaya (we used 2 tsp in the pictures) Instructions: Whisk all ingredients together in a pot. Note! To avoid lumps in the slime, gradually whisk the psyllium husk into the water. Place the pot on the stove and simmer the slime over low heat. Remember to stir constantly so it doesn’t burn on the bottom! The slime should simmer for about 5 minutes or until it releases from the edges of the pot. For a more gooey slime, you can use a little less psyllium husk. This recipe produces a slightly thicker slime with a dark pink color! Good luck with your experimenting! Rengör din vattenflaska rätt - Naturliga metoder & tips

Clean your water bottle properly - Natural methods & tips

If you are reading this post, you have most likely already replaced your old plastic water bottle with a fresh stainless steel or glass water bottle. Congratulations to you! Now you can avoid unnecessary chemicals in your drinking water! And if you haven’t made the switch yet, you’ll find several different models to choose from in our growing range of water bottles! But how do you take care of your reusable water bottle in the best way? Does your trusty companion get the love it deserves and needs? 😉 Sometimes glass and stainless steel water bottles can develop a musty and unpleasant smell, especially if you’ve used them for a strongly scented drink or forgotten them with liquid inside for a long time. 1. Everyday cleaning of water bottle & cap If you use your water bottle daily, it should also be washed daily. This applies even if you only drink water, as saliva, dust, and other dirt can create a breeding ground for bacteria, and we don’t want that in our clean drinking water. Here we help you step by step to take care of your water bottle in the best possible way! For everyday cleaning you need: Warm water Eco-friendly dish soap Dish brush, bottle brush, and possibly a straw brush Do this: Avoid submerging the entire water bottle in dishwater. The best way is to clean the bottle by pouring warm water and eco-friendly dish soap directly into it. Put the cap on the bottle and shake it well a few times until the soap forms bubbles. Then clean it with a dish brush or bottle brush that fits the bottle neck. Rinse the bottle with water until it’s free of soap. Remember to wash both the inside and outside of the bottle, then dry it or let it air dry on the dish rack. Also wash the cap with warm water and dish soap. Take apart the parts and wash each separately. Any straws should be cleaned with a straw brush. Note! Stainless steel water bottles that are painted should usually not be washed in the dishwasher, as the paint can be damaged by the harsh treatment from heat and strong detergent. Stainless insulated water bottles should also not be washed in the dishwasher, as water can seep into seams and similar areas. We advise you to avoid washing your stainless steel water bottle in the dishwasher unless you are sure it will withstand the treatment. Glass water bottles usually can be washed in the dishwasher without problems. 2. Deep cleaning of water bottle & cap Sometimes the water bottle needs a thorough cleaning, for example if it has developed a musty smell or has been forgotten while filled with coffee or other drinks that can leave odors. Vinegar is a fantastic natural cleaner that can remove certain types of bacteria. The vinegar cleaning method doesn’t kill all bacteria but is a good way to deep clean a reusable water bottle that needs it. Just like vinegar, baking soda is also a household favorite for those who want to clean naturally. Below are two natural and simple recipes for deep cleaning water bottles. For the Vinegar trick you need: Warm water Eco-friendly dish soap Vinegar Do this: First wash the bottle as usual with warm water and dish soap. Then fill the bottle with 1/5 vinegar and 4/5 warm water (you can increase the vinegar ratio depending on how dirty the bottle is). Shake the bottle a few times and then let it sit with the mixture overnight. Rinse it out in the morning and wash it as usual if you think it still smells like vinegar. For the Baking Soda trick you need: Baking soda Warm water Do this: Pour 2-3 tablespoons of baking soda into your water bottle and fill it with warm water. Put the cap on and shake the bottle a few times, then let it sit with the mixture for a few hours. Rinse the bottle with warm water. Deep cleaning the cap: When deep cleaning caps and lids, it’s especially important to take apart all parts and wash them by hand with a dish brush and dish soap. Many parts can also be washed in the dishwasher on the top rack, which is very convenient and ensures they get thoroughly clean. Check if your water bottle’s parts can be washed in the machine. 3. How to store your water bottle The water bottle should be stored in a dry and clean place with the cap off to allow the bottle to air out. If you usually put the cap on the bottle when storing it, it’s very important that all parts have dried completely before you put it away in a cupboard. Otherwise, there is a risk the bottle will develop an unpleasant smell or bacteria will form. How do you wash your bottle? We hope you’ve got some good tips to help reduce both plastic and bacteria in your water. Do you have even more tips on how to keep bottles clean? Share them in a comment so we can all learn from each other. Good luck!

Guide till lymfmassage med torrborstning på 5-10 minuter

Guide to lymphatic massage with dry brushing in 5-10 minutes

Have you heard of dry brushing but wonder what it is and why you should do it? Here is a simple guide and explanation. If you are more interested in lymphatic massage/drainage for the face, you should read about the techniques for lymphatic drainage in the facial area instead. Dry Brushing By dry brushing the skin, you remove old skin residues and waste products. It helps keep the pores clean and stimulates blood circulation. But dry brushing also has perhaps an even more important role. It stimulates and activates the body's own lymphatic system. The lymphatic system is responsible for removing waste substances and toxins, and when it doesn't function optimally, you may feel swollen and stiff in the body. You can read more about the lymphatic system on Morotsliv. By deep breathing, bouncing on a trampoline, or exercising, you help the flow of lymph. But 5 minutes of dry brushing can be as effective for lymph flow as 30 minutes of physical exercise! The Brush The best is to invest in a brush made of natural fibers. If your skin easily becomes red and irritated, choose a softer brush, and if you have more resilient skin, you can choose a medium or firmer one. It should not scratch or hurt, but a brush that is too soft is not as effective. A glove also works well. If it is hard to reach your feet and back, you can use a brush with a long handle. Different models of brushes and gloves are available in our range. How to Do It! Take a few deep breaths to awaken the lymphatic system. You can also tap yourself below the collarbones and rise onto your toes a few times while deep breathing to get the lymph flowing. When dry brushing, use circular, massaging movements. Scrub carefully, but not too hard. Your skin may also become slightly red as blood circulation starts, but this is completely normal. How to Dry Brush (5-10 min) Start from the feet and brush/massage in circles up along the entire legs. Do the front, inside, back, and outside. Be extra thorough in the knee creases and groin areas. Dry brush the stomach below the navel in circular motions down towards the groin, and above the navel brush in circles upwards towards the heart and collarbones. Then continue with the hands and arms. Massage from the hands up to the shoulders. Be extra thorough in the elbow creases and armpits. Brush the back in circles from the spine out towards the sides. Shower off all dead skin cells. Finish by moisturizing. You can, for example, use cold-pressed coconut oil, another skin oil, or lotion while the skin is still slightly damp. Repeat dry brushing for 5-10 minutes every morning on dry skin for 3 months. After that, 1-2 times a week is enough. Avoid varicose veins, superficial blood vessels, and the face. Here you can watch a tutorial on lymphatic massage. Have you used lymphatic massage and experienced positive effects?
