The lip balm also contains beeswax, lysine and propolis in its formula. Lysine is an amino acid that relieves irritation associated with cold sores.  The dark spots in the product are small particles of healing propolis. Propolis is a natural resin collected by bees and is known for its anti-inflammatory and healing properties.
