Description
Dark chocolate is known as a source of antioxidants, but raw cocoa goes far beyond that. The raw version of cocoa powder contains 367% more antioxidants than even the best heated varieties. This cocoa powder is raw, certified organic and rich in antioxidants and other nutrients.
It is made by cold pressing, which separates the oil from the protein and dietary fiber, and then sifted so that only the finest cocoa makes it into the finished product. The powder has a delightful, rich and aromatic flavor. This unique technique uses absolutely no chemicals, hexane or solvents.
The cocoa powder is completely non-alkalized. This means it has not undergone so-called "Dutch processing" or neutralization, and is free from calcium carbonate and other additives.
Why eat cocoa?
Cocoa powder contains several beneficial compounds:
- A large number of antioxidants.
- Magnesium, calcium, zinc and iron. It is a very rich source of magnesium.
- The amino acid tryptophan occurs naturally in cocoa. Tryptophan is, among other things, essential for the production of serotonin.
- Cocoa contains, among other things, PEA (also found in blue-green algae). Phenylethylamine (PEA) is a chemical produced by the body when you fall in love; this is probably why chocolate and falling in love are often linked.
How to use cocoa powder:
- Mix into smoothies and protein shakes.
- Blend with nut butter and sweeteners such as stevia, honey, coconut sugar or lucuma for the most delicious desserts.
- Use in cookies, brownies or pies: just add a tablespoon.
- Mix with dried fruit, nuts, and coconut to make "energy balls." You can then add your favorite superfoods to the balls, such as pollen, lucuma, maca, mesquite, spirulina, AFA algae, reishi powder, etc.
- Mix with almond, oat, or rice milk and honey for a creamy dark chocolate drink that tastes wonderful. You can add spices such as ginger, cinnamon, or cardamom if you like.
- Mix with oat milk or cashew milk and a ripe pear for a luxurious chocolate drink. Ripe pear is an excellent sweetener.
- Mix with raw coconut oil or hemp oil and agave nectar or yacon syrup to make a raw chocolate syrup. Drizzle over fruit salad or ice cream. Great for dipping goji berries or mulberries, for example. Delicious!
- Make your own raw chocolate: Mix with cocoa butter, real vanilla powder, your favorite sweetener, and any flavoring of your choice, such as nuts, dried berries, ginger, chili, green tea, mint, superfoods, etc. Get creative. Leave in the fridge for a couple of hours before serving.
